Cut out some of the unneeded posts from the beginning.
First of all - Thank you, KingFowler, for asking that he post his responses publicly. Instead of doing the appropriate thing and messaging you about the standing issue. Not sure if you intended that on purpose so others like us could see, but regardless. Thank you.
1. Love the nice use of that confused emote, Karlos needing to make sure that maximum ass hurt is known.
2. Nice job trying to cover up your removing their positive standing as totally not trying to get back at them for making a comment that staff has been doing jack shit. It’s very transparent what you were doing, Karlos, even with your unnecessary public explanation.
3. Lets think of some better ways that situation could have been handled under the assumption that yes, the standing was questionable and needed to be investigated -
The user should have been informed privately - like all moderation related matters - that during a search through current good-standing users due to the recent changes, it was discovered that their good standing was granted, but without a reason given. You need to investigate and talk with the admin that gave it, and you’re letting the user know that their standing may be removed as it may have been done in error. You then contact them later and let them know that everything is okay/not okay.
You don’t mention this to the user and first complete your investigation and if and when you find that the standing was inappropriate, you contact them. Again privately.
You don’t first remove the standing DIRECTLY AFTER THEY CALL STAFF OUT and act like it was just a routine check, without saying anything to them. You don’t allow them to ask publicly why you did this, and you don’t post the answers publicly at their request. You also don’t lie and say that their post had nothing to do with you removing their standing. All of this for you to just give them the standing back anyway.
4. And of course it was Jekyll that gave the positive standing without a reason why. Look at all this public evidence of her incompetence, but look who will always remain an admin on this sinking ship.
5. You’re also really going to question a standing that was given four years ago?! Do you honestly expect that any staff member would remember why they gave a positive standing that long ago? You said in the end your trusted her judgement so? What even was the point in your “investigation”? This is all more proof that you did remove the standing in a fit of rage because a user dared to make a slightly passive aggressive/sarcastic comment about the lack of staff presence. Then your brain finally stopped being 12 and you realized ‘oh, shit. I guess I shouldn’t have done that. Let me make up a really stupid excuse instead of owning up to what I did.”
Never change, Karlos. Burn your website to the ground while you’re at it.
