"Shoeshine" Review

I saw "Shoeshine", an early neorealist film directed by Vittorio De Sica. Most of the youth actors never acted before and basically were off the street. From IMDb, "Two shoeshine boys in postwar Rome, Italy save up to buy a horse, but their involvement as dupes in a burglary lands them in juvenile prison; the experience take a devastating toll on their friendship."

It is a relatively melodramatic film and depressing, for the most part. I thought this was a very good film although not, IMO, as good as "Bicycle Thieves". The music in much of the film was rather upbeat.
