Kairos: Hey there! I’m Kairos. It’s nice to meet you.
Azaelia: You too! I’m Azaelia. This place is huge, are you going to live here with whoever you pick at the end?
Kairos: Hah, it’s just a rental for the show, but go ahead inside!
Azaelia scored a 10/10!
Truth be told, Laurel doesn’t need any more time outside. The beginnings of hir cold are still creaking in hir bones. But it’ll help them both to be in a place with other people - to see what they are all thankful for today, and help them be a little more thankful in turn. Ze thinks. Ze hopes.
When Poppy, poor frozen Poppy, sees the two humans coming, gags on their approach, and strides away, that hope gets encased just that fraction more in darkness.
Amelia: *quietly* “Poppy. ᛈ, ᛈ for Poppy. ᛈᚪᛈ... ᛈᛁ? I think those spell Poppy. ᚪ, once in Poppy. Once in joy, twice in... Does Poppy count for triumph or sorrow?”
Laurel: “...Amelia, what are you talking about?”
Amelia: “Ah. It - the Runes. I was just seeing if... Never mind, dearest. The snow’s ready for us, if--”
Laurel: “Yes, a snowman! Great idea.”
Perhaps there is only so much of the bread left. Perhaps the jelly is getting thin with age. Perhaps the peanut butter is the crunchy kind. And yes, perhaps the final sandwich will be underwhelming and small, compared to the plate it rests on. But Laurel doesn’t care. Not when ze’s in the zone of actually preparing a meal at all, working with chopping boards, knives, washed hands... The Natural Cook, back in hir element...
“... a Natural Cook back at home... safe in all respects.”
“Well duh you’re safe in all respects. If you’re the killer, you’re not gonna kill yourself, right?”
Ze almost nicks hir finger with the knife, Virgo and Poppy’s voices screeching sirens in the skull.
...No, it’s just a sandwich. Not hot dogs. Just a sandwich meant for two. Not hir fault. Not hir fault.
It’s done and on the table before ze knows it.
“O-over?!”
“It will still carry on, in all its challenge-elimination-rota-tedium. But as a competition to win my heart, it’s over. It never began. There’s someone here who’s already captured it with one look. Who doesn’t even know it, but has won me over, mind, body and soul.”
“Is it me?”
“…No.”
“So why did you call me up if it’s not me? Seems a little rude.”
“I’m getting to that, Nora. In theory, I could cancel the whole thing now. But if I do, everyone will be enraged. They’ll tell me I barely know any of them, ask how I can let them down on what they call a whim.
“Then again, say I keep it all going, as I said. What if the one I love stumbles, falls, is forced to go home in ways out of my hands? Before I can prove my love to– I couldn’t bear it. I don’t even want to think about it. So if one way leads to me losing my goal, and the other to a crowd of very angry people… well, it’s my job to find a perfect, happy medium.”
L: Hey Prim! How are you doing? ...girlfriend? Really? That’s great!!
L: ...YOU’RE BOTH PREGNANT?? Oh dear creator.
Plum: What’s that coming over the hill, it’s Mari ghost squad, it’s Mari ghost squaaaaad!
