Some of you may remember that way back at the start of the bang, we asked you to tell us which country you were in for “nerdy data reasons.” The nerdy data is now here - a load of fun Olympic themed statistics! Because it wouldn’t be an Olympic event without a bit of healthy, nationality-based competition, now would it?
Note -The stats in this summary only include word counts/art counts from those creators who a) completed the bang and b) filled in the nationality section of their sign-ups form.
We had creators from six different countries complete work for the bang: Canada, Indonesia, Poland, Thailand, the United States and the United Kingdom!
During the bang, these creators posted a total of 861,298 words and 79 pieces of art!
Let’s look at the artists in more detail first!
We had art submissions from Canada, Indonesia, Poland, Thailand, the US and the UK.
52% or our artists were from the US.
18% were from the UK.
12% were from Canada.
6% were from Indonesia.
6% were from Poland.
6% were from Thailand.
If we went purely on amount of art produced, the Olympic podium would look like this...
The US would be in gold position, with 45% of the art. Poland would be in silver, with 27% of the art and the UK would be in bronze with 10% of the art!
However, if we worked out the average amount of art produced per creator, the podium would look very different...
Poland would take gold, with an average of 21 pieces per person! Indonesia would take silver with an average of 4 pieces of art per person, and the US would take bronze with an average of 3.9 pieces per person.
Now, onto the writers!
We had fic submitted from Canada, the US and the UK.
69% of fic came from the US.
23% of fic came from the UK.
8% of fic came from Canada.
If we went purely on word count, the podium would look as follows:
In gold position, the US produced 559,545 words in total, which was 64% of the total words for the bang. In silver position, the UK produced 249,295 words, which was 29% of the total words for the bang. In bronze position, Canada produced 52,458 words, which was 7% of the total words for the bang.
However, if we look at the average words per person, the podium looks slightly different!
The UK takes gold, with an average of 83,093 words per person. The US takes silver with an average of 62,172 words per person. Canada takes bronze with 52,458 words per person.
And thus concludes the nerdy data section of the 2021 Winterhawk Olympic Bang - see you all next year!
