John Watson potato joins 221B family... but it feels like someone is watching them... I went with yuumori manga/morimu color palette for John. From all yummori characters his color palette was the most changed in anime compare to manga.

Well, I think I wrote everything that can help in making own potato felted figure. As I said, there are still recordings how I did some more complex figures on Nerdy Felting channel to look into. I didn't record doing Sherlock because working under big lamps hurt my eyes a lot.
Be prepared you will break some needles at start, if you have glasses I recommend to felt in them, once the end of needle that broke bounce into my way and it was little dangerous but this happened because I was trying to hurry up, anyway, please be careful. Beside that felting it's really interesting and quite clean figure making technique :) Just don't buy needles from Crazy hands company, they made wool pulp instead felting it. I learned that hard way....
Felted potato Miss Hudson is done, slowly Moriarty potato family gets bigger (but I need some break before I do John and get better felting needle, one I have just made wool mushy and I wasted like 4 hours because of that). I plan to post tutorial for those potatos soon, but if someone wonders how to do such hair, I always felt 3 pieces of hair and I braid them, this won't be in tutorial since it's made on time when I felt Sherlock so I decided to add this here. I used the same technique for Xenoblade Melia hair, thought those nice braids got lost under all Melia's head accessories. Anyway doing it this way gives better 3d effect.
Morithree brothers in potato form made with wool and felted needle. They are around 9 cm. As you can see they are based on official mochi plushes, but I call them potato because they are less round.
I wanted to do Albert and Louis in the same style as my previous felting work of William and Sherlock, but working on such big figures takes so long to do, like I think I worked in every free moment for 2-3 months on Sherlock while those takes me like 2-3 evenings with 3-4 hours of work. So I can do them faster and do more characters this way. I still think that one day I would like to do big Albert and Louis but for now I'm tired of such big felting projects and wanna do something easy and fast.
So here are Moriarty brothers done and Sherlock's gang will be next. I will try to do some tutorial while doing Sherlock, because maybe someone else would like to make his own "potato" but I think I will go more with screenshots with instructions than video. Not sure yet. Anyway, I plan to do a lot of Yuumori characters in this style, I don't know on how many before I will have enough, but I have some silly idea to do with them... but future will show if it will work out.
Sherliam and 3d puzzle.
Last few weeks were stressful for me so I have decided to grab that 3d model puzzle for the first time (Tower Bridge, Yuumori fans all know why ;) ), have some silly fun with it and my felted William and Sherlock because I didn't have any chances to make more photos with them.
Felted figure of Sherlock Holmes from Moriarty the Patriot
Third day of being still in shock after morimu op5 it's time to do something productive and here are some photos for Sherlock. I managed to finish him just one day before op5 and it was like speed felting but as well it was taking forever to finish. Because of that I have decided to take some break from felting. Last 5-7 felted works I have made were characters or big figures that took so much time and strength to do after work, so I think I need break. I made head base for Albert but if I start him now he again will take all my free time for next 2-3 months. I will probably return to felting around winter when I will do and finish other projects I have in line.
But anyway back to Sherly, there were two things that gave me headache while doing him, first his hair, he have so wavy and messy hair in manga it was hard for me to translate it into 3d in my head. Beside that blue wool didn't want to felt into more stable shape no matter how long I felted it, this too probably tired me so much that I need break now. Second was to make him the same height as William since this is canon. After connecting parts he was higher and I had to stab his legs down and all.
I have made few photos of him and William together. In this post I wanted to upload only "Nerdy Felting style photos" as I did with my other felted figures. I will post them in next week.
William James Moriarty felted figure this time (In his teacher chapter outfit more or less because I wanted more colors and details).
My first character stand up human figure and as I edited photos I did realize William is my first no-game but manga/anime figure. He’s about 30 cm high.
I’ve fall deep into Moriarty the Patriot story. My last two posts here were start of it and this one is follow up. Of course I’m planning to do another Moriarty characters next. Sherlock is next in line and I have head for him prepared already (thought I need to make another one first before I start to add details to current one, in order to keep heads the same size). I’ve spend some time yesterday on checking manga and anime and thinking what pose I want to do for Sherly. When I finish our Great Detective then for sure I wanna do Albert next. But I messed up while buying more wool for felting that I didn’t notice I have so little of brown for his hair (a lot of my brown wool went into William). And after Albert I will go with Louis because I want brothers to be together.
This William will be now kinda my pattern for next ones, it took me a moment to figure out what proportions I want for legs and hands for those standing up figures, so maybe Sherlock will let me felt him faster? Nah, empty dreams of mine, I bet his messy hair will gave me headache to figure out into 3d.
And as for William and now next stand up figures I went for old-Disney like 4 fingers hands because 5 finger ones sounds too difficult still for me. Well since I started with characters chibi figures that didn’t have hands, I call this a progress XD. And those William hands were still kinds hard to felt. I don’t think I stab myself with needle doing making Melia, with William was like this too until I got to second hand and stab myself like four times while doing it.
Depending how fast Sherly will come out and If I will need break from character felting I might do something small between him and Albert.
As for other things. I returned lately into making AMVs and I was going to make another one, I have like whole playlist of songs that fits Moriarty the Patriot and I see good amvs to them, but I hit a problem. I wanna mix manga with anime in those amvs like I did with Albert’s amv. But I know what kind of stories we might get in Remains manga and now, for William amv it would be great to include “the girl who sees rainbows”, because there was a lot cool William there and there is chance manga will show it nicely too if that chapter will make it, but I think it will. And this chapter plus “forbidden games” might give more material for another amv, this time with sherliam theme and I want really do at least one or two amvs with whole Moriarty group and knowing Novels “the conspiratorial bullet” might give some nice pannels with Louis, Albert, Bond, Fred and Jack, “Eternal Children” chapter too. So with knowing what might come in manga now I’m stuck, because update later amv is not the option for me. I feel like for 100% we won’t get any more anime (I’m very annoyed at Baskerville not being animated because of many reasons), and I wanna show MTP in my amvs as whole story, mostly what was skipped from manga. So for now I’m waiting what chapters we might get, I’m editing in my free time panels from volumes 1-19 I might use in those amvs. So soon or later next amv will come, I just don’t know how soon. I might go with one amv anime-only, I have some songs for that theme but none of them is like 100% “that’s it!” feeling like I had with Albert’s amv.
Melia from Xenoblade 1
After soooo many months Melia is done. She really took me a lot time since I started her around September 2022 before Xenoblade 3 came out. Meanwhile I finished Carbuncle and Malboro but still it’s half of year in the work. Melia had so many details that not once I thought I might be close to finishing her soon but then all details she has proved me to be wrong.
Like head for example, was crazy, her complex hairstyle is something I’m proud I managed to do it right. She has the real braids since I felted stands from wool and braided them. Then when hair was done the wings were next challenge. How to make them to look good, not flat and to look like those feathers and from both sides.
At that moment I moved to make the body. I knew head wasn’t yet finished because of the band and hair clips and that they will take me another big chunk of time... I was working and working on her and I’ve felt like I was not making any progress.
So when I got to the part when I started to needle details on Melia’s dress things started to finally work out because before that I had like big art-block and couldn’t get myself to work on her for like 2 months. The amount of work I still saw before me was too much.
I like Melia and have thought that her Future Connected outfit would be best one was my greatest mistake. Still I love how she turned out. I say that often, that this is the most complex figure I felted up until now and this time really is. I don’t think Thanatos or Zagreus were giving me such hard time and Carbuncle was big but it didn’t have so many smaller parts and details.
I was planning to felt some other character after her, probably chaos from Xenosaga, but I see he has a lot details in his ep3 outfit too, so for now I wanna do someone more simple and probably it will be someone from one manga I’m currently falling in love with, but I will not say who is it since I don’t know how long it will take. I hope it will be a lot faster than Melia.
