I think this is the end of the Maverick mod though, that project is finished.
I wanted to do a post just on the 3D printed parts, for the Maverick Mod, because it was so little. The slide cover was cosmetic, and the cylinders were technically cosmetic as well, since I could probably scrounge up cylinders from old / damaged mavericks. Regardless, the original works, and that’s all that’s needed for it to function.
But the two pieces I had to make, the pressure nozzle that actually lets the air exit the gun into the cylinder, and the trigger tab. That little piece changed this from a, “I think I can make this work,” to, “Well, that was way simpler than I expected.”
I realize that little tab is less than a centimeter, but it fit perfectly, made it so I didn’t need to rebuild the trigger or the rotary mechanism, allowed me to fit the valve in above the grip in a way I didn’t need to worry about the hose paths. I do love the way that tab screws right onto the trigger assembly and hits the valve with no problems.
The nozzle was pretty simple by comparison, I measured the gap the old nozzle sat in and measure the old nozzle itself on the front of the plunger tube and built a piece to fit. That was it.
The version 4 (brass) cylinder is the last part of the post, I had to get a bit tight on some of the tolerances to make sure the brass fit well, but was also able to keep the smooth organic curves, mixed in with the sharp edges of the parts and crimped brass, I think they look gorgeous. I also cut as much unneeded material out of the inside as I could so that it was quicker to printer and lighter. Not that the wait fo the cylinders matter with that pressure regulator on there.

So, my family's motto (ignoring the Latin on our families coat of arms) is, "if it's worth doing, it's worth OVER doing." So I added LEDs and an arduino for a simple lighting program to this thing. (Yay!) It's a bit ridiculous, slow to fire, (due to pressure charge time) high range, but no accuracy, its reasonable heavy, and can be reloaded really quickly. And it lights up, so no stealth. I loved it, it's super fun and the more ridiculous, the better.
The version 4 cylinders (brass) are finished and looking fantastic. This gun looks steam punk as fuck, I’m super happy with the way it’s coming out.
The slide cover is probably going to be reprinted because I apparently didn’t get all of the black cleared out. I like the marbled effect it got, but there is a dog hair burned into it and the tines for the emblem didn’t print well and I had to cut the twisted chunk of them out. So… Yeah, probably a reprint for that.

Version 3 finished printing yesterday and came out looking great. It is two pieces that I super glued together using rubber clamps but I must have had some debris in between as there is a tiny bit of gap on one side, not enough to see but enough to lose air pressure. Because of this, it fires but not as well as it should. Should be easily remedied by rubbing some epoxy into the seam inside of each chamber. Designed in rhino 3d and printed on a robo3d r1+.
Working on a simple Nerf mod, a Mavrick with interchangeable cylinders to make it quicker to load. This mod had originally been just a quick strip to cut as much excess plastic away without braking it, but that left the cylinder ejection essentially non-functional. I realized that putting a spring along the top pin allowed the cylinder to be easily inserted and removed, and also decreased jamming as it kept enough pressure against the air release for the turn mechanism to run smooth without getting caught.
The pictures are all just screen caps from Rhino3D, the top 2 showing version 1 (left) and version 2 (right). Version 1 is printing now and should be done later today. Version 2 was a much more interesting stylized one I just finished designing. If V1 works well, I’ll print at least one V2 Cylinder. I think the curves should fit the SteamPunk aesthetic I was going for with the gun.
There are a couple pictures showing the breakdown of parts, blue are hardware, a 2x100mm rod, a small spring, and 3 M3x10 screws to hold the two parts together.
The last image I just thought looked kinda cool, it’s my guide lines and base curves that the entire thing is built from. should something happen and all the objects and surfaces go bad, I can rebuild the entire thing from those curves without any other references or measurements.
Once the V1 Cylinder is finished and constructed I’ll post some pictures of the gun and parts.
EDIT: add one more image, the Print Prep layout of all of the parts for V1 and V2, it looks like a little mushroom forest.
This is my Nerf maverick “Dead Ringer.” It has an improved spring, removed ARs, improved catch spring and a drop out cylinder. The name is because the spring it actually rings when it fires.
Anyone else notice nerf keeps releasing the same six shot gun with different skins?
