“Nergüi, why do you insist on hanging around?” Mia hisses, distaste clear on her features. “I am the Dragon of Ether now. The world does not need two embodiments of the same element. It upsets too much. The balance needs to be kept. Did you not do enough damage in your own lifetime?”
Nergüi lounges in the kitchen, feet placed upon the table. He rolls his eyes at Mia’s words, a hand rising to mimic and mock. She is so wound up, so focused on what ‘needs’ to be done. How could this tightly wound ball of heroic bullshit be his reincarnated soul? It makes no sense to him.
“Look, pup,” He rumbles, waving a now meatless bone in the air. “I’m here, I’m staying and you’ll just have to deal. None of your lectures are going to change that.”
“These aren’t lectures! They’re-” Mia groans, a hand sliding from her sleeve to run through her hair. She hates talking to this ... this monster. His voice is so close to the one that tormented her for centuries. It makes her cringe. It makes her wish to crawl inside herself and scream. This man is the source of all her suffering. If only she could end him like she ended Yingzi.
Their eyes lock, a grin spreading across Nergüi’s face. Mia averts her gaze, afraid he saw that horrid desire in her eyes. A deep chuckle and she knows he did.
A clattering as the bone is thrown aside. A loud thud as he kicks the table over. Another chuckle as Nergüi the Endless climbs to his feet. He knows that look. He has seen it so many times before. She wants to kill him. He’d love to see her try.
“Oh and there it is again,” He rumbles, stalking over to Mia and looming over her. “You can’t hide it from me, pup. We share the same soul, the same rage.”
“I am nothing like you!” Mia snarls, head snapping around to glare into his dark, endless eyes. Her skin crawls at that gleam in them, that wild, blood thirsty gleam. She knows what he will ask before the words even leave his mouth.
“You know we could settle this. Fight me again. Show me you can tear me apart like you claim and we’ll be done with this.”
Her jaw clenches, eyes wide. She knows what he is doing. He is trying to make her into him. If she uses her power like he did, walk down that twisted path with him, then he’ll have what he wants more than anything else. Someone to continue his legacy. The purpose Yingzi was created for.
“I ... I wont. I wont go down that path.”
And she refuses once more. She keeps doing that. Such a stubborn girl. Something to be admired he guesses. Not like that fear he sees in her eyes. Afraid of her own power. Afraid to become the goddess she is supposed to be. Control over life itself and she is afraid to even live. It makes him sick.
“Fine,” He snarls, taking a step back, arms opening wide. “Are we done then? I’ve got living to do while you still cower away from shadows.”
Mia’s hands clench but her gaze drops. She stalks from the room, leaving him to clean up his mess. Tears cling to the corners of her eyes but refuse to drop. He isn’t right. She isn’t afraid of herself. ... Is she?
