Something I absolutely love about the OFF community is how the canon material is so shrouded in mystery, so it's breeding ground for fanons.

I absolutely adore the way folks will interpret the tiny sprites and rough sketches by Mortis Ghost into their own creations.

It's legitimately great. It's so much fun seeing how different people interpret the same character. How Zacharie can be both an UwU catboi to one fan but a short, fat, hairy middle aged man to another. And who are we to say which one is "correct"? It's all in good fun.

It's been so great to see this fandom still around and kicking 10 years after its hayday in the Tumblr space circa 2013. The pool of people creating content is small, but reblogging it is like tipping your hat to other OFF fans like ships passing in the night. And the folks who don't know see the creations and get curious about it, trying it for themselves and adding to the pool of fans.

It's just really lovely.

That was how Shouto looked at it, at least: It was a thing. It was competitive and crazy and fast paced and made his heart pound and made adrenaline course through his veins and it was awesome.

At least, until he thought about it too hard and came back to the real world for too long.

Imagine you are a chef. You've spent most of your life taking inspiration from cookbooks and honing your skills.

You decide to open up your own restaurant using the recipes you created. You make good money because your food is delicious and quality consistent.

You publish cookbooks, hoping to inspire future chefs to create their own recipes. You have published these with the understanding that folks will use it for their own PERSONAL use. After all, it would be pretty scummy for someone to open their own restaurant using only your recipes. If anything, that hypothetical restaurant could get into lots of legal trouble if someone were to do that.

Then along comes a "fast food" restaurant, promising to serve high quality food at a fraction of the price. They make their "food" by shoving ingredients and cookbooks, including yours, into a machine. The machine can only make dishes from whatever recipes it has in its database and whatever ingredients it was provided. The quality is questionable, inconsistent.

Because it will frequently produce inedible food, the owner needs several times as many ingredients as your restaurant, eventually disrupting the supply chain. Now you as a chef can't get the ingredients you need to make your meals. Families can't get ingredients for their meals either.

The person who owns the other restaurant, despite never cooking or building the machine, calls themself a chef, because they can also produce meals at the touch of a button.

You approach the other owner, saying their restaurant is causing disruptions for the entire town. The owner is offended, saying they're democratizing cooking. After all, they don't have natural talent like you do.

You point out your talent didn't come naturally, you worked hard for it. You spent years taking inspiration from other chefs. The owner points out how their machine is also capable of "taking inspiration" from your recipes. That's why they put it in the database

Except it can't. The machine doesn't know what it's reading because the machine doesn't understand anything about taste pairings, flavors, spices, the differences between cookware, etc. All the things you had to learn. That's why the machine frequently produces inedible garbage.

The owner says you're being too sensitive, that their restaurant isn't hurting yours.

Except it is.

Because the machine needs so much more food and energy, it is starving the town.

The owner now gets especially annoyed with you. They say this machine is the future. That someday everyone will be cooking like this.

Except there won't be any more food if this machine keeps consuming all of it.

If there's one thing I've learned as an adult, it's to celebrate the little accomplishments. Even for something as simple as making a doctor's appointment.

Don't diminish it just because it's "expected" of you.

Just some Perlers I've made recently since drawing has been rather difficult for me lately.

So weird fact about me: I was OBSESSED with Chicken Run as a kid. I had a fan character named Spunky who was the daughter of the main characters (because I was a kid).

I started writing a story where Spunky gets kidnapped by the mean farmer lady and her parents have to break back into the farm to save her.

... Anyway that Chicken Run series on Netflix, huh?
