1. Do you prefer traditional drawing, or digital?
I draw mostly digital, but I do traditional art too (sketches only, but it keeps me in good shape and doesn’t let me forget how to hold a pencil).
5. What’s your favorite thing to draw?
I really enjoy drawing characters! Especially showing emotions with wrinkles from a smile, raised or frowning eyebrows etc. It really helps me to show person’s character and its age as well.
6. What’s your least favorite thing to draw?
Folds on clothes. Please kill me it is SO HARD to draw on different types of clothes. Sometimes I don't get how people make them so realistic.
I am trying my best, looking at references and even on my own clothes as well, but still there are so many things I have to learn. It is a long way indeed.
7. How often do you use references?
Actually almost all the time, but it depends on what exactly I need from the reference picture. For example I don’t use pose references, but cloth style, vegetation (trees, leaves, flowers), environment details etc. I love to draw my “own design” things but I find it more useful to use real thing that are already existing, so I won’t spend hours on coming up with some crazy ideas for buildings or boots.
10. Are you confident about your art?
Most of the time. I am in that stage when I know for sure that my art skills are growing with every sketch I make even if I don’t like the pose, angle or colors. I know that I went through a long way to become who I am now. I do also look back at my old drawings and compare with my latest ones, and I say to myself “Yeah, look at that. Man, you did a great job right there, you’ve improved your art skill one more time. Keep going!”
18. What are you currently trying to improve on?
Dynamics. In my opinion it is the most important and hard thing to draw in illustrations. So far no success in this area.
24. Do you feel jealous when you see other people’s art, or inspired?
Yes, I do feel both jealousy and inspiration. I keep thinking that being jealous of people is bad, but I can do nothing with that (actually it really depends on kind of jealousy: white or black).
25. Do you like to draw in silence, or with music?
With music of course! For example, I’m working on piece with Spires of Arak from WoW right now and I turn on the OST playlist to feel its atmosphere. Music helps me to understand and catch the mood for my illustrations.
30. What inspires you to not just make art, but to be a better artist?
My friends, people who enjoy my art and stories, and also other artists/writes too. The feedback I get from my followers helps me to improve my skills to be not only a better artist, but a better person as well.
32. What defines your artistic style?
Well, that’s a difficult question. Once I got a comment that my style is a some combination of realism and Disney cartoons. Actually, I was pleasantly surprised
by this description, and may somehow agree with it. While I love to make my illustarions more realistic, I do also want to show that it’s not real, but fantastic, magic and so on.
35. List at least one of your “artspirations.”
Art inspiration? Do I understand it correctly?
I have a huge list of artist those art I enjoy night and day, and I have a list of artists who inspire me alot. I went to my “Aovin inspo” folder and found like 8 illustrations by Meadowlarking. :Ъ
36. Do you have a shameful art past? (recolour sprite comics, tracing art, etc.)
Yes, I have some... and I am not proud of it at all. I am so grateful now that in one certain moment I have left this shameful traced pictures in the past and actually started drawing by myself. I was too young and too stupid to understand that tracing someone else’s work is insult and disrespect to the artist/writer.
