-Serious arm candy (The Stylist does good work)
-She’s always well dressed
-She’ll make sure you’re always well dressed

-Need something done? She has a ghoul for that.

-Expansive collection of Kung Fu movies
-Will giddly watch horror movies with you
-Do you have enemies? A boss who refuses to promote you? A nasty co-worker who steals credit for your work? Not anymore.
——————————————————————————————————
Cons
-Emotional intimacy is not on the menu
-You may find yourself doing things on her behalf and wondering how she convinced you to do them
-She has an affinity for terrifying otherworldly shadows
-Weird lack of mirrors in her dwellings
-No cutesy couple selfies
-Will bite and/or get up and dance on the tables if drunk
-Will say “It’s fine” while quietly plotting your demise
-Her tall, blue-haired big bro may dunk you in the harbor
-Her wing-women may stab you, punch you, and/or raise your corpse as a servant
-She might sacrifice you to the Abyss in her pursuit of power
-Undead, blood thirsty monster that kills because it feels good (she’s working on that but still)
#53: "Who the hell are you people?"
A pang of fear shot through Julius Mehra’s body as he entered the doorway to his office. Something wasn’t right. There was something…no definitely someone, sitting behind his desk. The room with dark, lit only by the moonlight. The desk’s large, leather office chair was facing away from the door, obscuring his view of the intruder.
“So nice of you to join us. Julius, Priscilla, please come in” a hand extended from behind the chair, motioning for Julius and the woman standing behind to come in further.
“What the-.. Who the fuck are you?!” he yelled as he reached for his phone to call for security. It was at that point he noticed that Priscilla, while she had entered the room behind him, wasn’t standing at his side but rather was standing near the wall to his left. His eyes widened when he turned to get a better look at what she was doing. There were two other intruders standing against the wall beside her. A tall, grinning, blonde-haired woman holding a spiked sledgehammer and a shorter, lighter-built brunette pointing a large rifle at the space between his eyes.
“Don’t bother calling security. They don’t work for you any more” Ness’s voice was cold and matter of fact as she turned the desk’s chair to face the man whose office she’d invaded.
Unarmed and clearly caught off guard, Julius attempted to back out of the room but something that felt like a wall blocked his path. He turned to see a tall, fanged man staring down at him with a wide smile. It was dark, but he could still see the man’s bright, blue hair and the shine from his brass knuckles.
“Who the hell are you people?!”
“Friends of your sister..” Ness flashed Priscilla a predatory smile, watching as the woman blushed, before fixing her eyes back on Julius “..and enemies of yours. You picked the wrong pack to fuck over and apparently the wrong ghoul to abuse and neglect. Don’t worry though, she and her talents aren’t yours to waste anymore”
Ness rose from her seat and walked over to the terrified man, pulling out her sword. She strode past him and placed the shining, silver weapon in Priscilla’s hands “I think it’s only fair you get the first blow, my dear” she turned back to Julius “I’ll spare you a long speech and get straight to what we all came here for”
Indy cocked her rifle “You killed my curator”
“Ya harassed my athletes” Hannah raised her sledgehammer.
“And your face just pisses me off. Prepare to die!” Carver yelled as Priscilla brought the sword down on her former domitor’s head. A rain of subsequent blows followed quickly.
It was several minutes later, once bits of Julius decorated the office in red, when Ness looked over at Carver “…..Was that a Princess Bride reference?”
“……….”
“……….”
“….you had a sword”
“Oh my god”
“We were getting revenge”
“You are the literal worst”
“You gave me such a beautiful set up!”
“….I hate you” Ness tried her best to keep her serious face intact.
Carver just grinned.
Prompt #62: Magic
“Any ideas for Indy’s Christmas presents? I’ve been thinking rare and mystical books but I feel like the chances of finding those here are slim” Ness looked around the mall frowning slightly. She and Hannah had successfully found their gifts for Carver and sneakily shopped for each other. Indy, however, was proving a little trickier.
“We could get her Winter with a bow?” Hannah offered.
“I have a hard enough time wrapping square boxes. No way, I’m wrapping a person”
Ness. The Empress. The Empress in reverse. Strength.
The Empress (Positive Female Figure)
I would definitely have to say that her mother is at the top of the list. Diane Thompson is a proud, strong-willed, hard working, and loving woman. Ness appreciates how hard it must have been for her mother to work (sometimes multiple jobs), take care of a young family, and continue as an active volunteer grassroots Civil Rights organizations and their local church. In the 1960’s around the time Ness was born, she would have been playing a small part in the fight for school desegregation in New York City. As far as Ness is concerned, Diane is, was, and will always be Super-Mom. While Ness has a strong desire to surpass her parents’ status in life (working poor), she has always held a deep respect, love, and admiration for her mother.
On the list as well would be Ness’s older sisters, Janet and Donna. Janet is older by 5 years. Donna was older by 2. Janet was always the soft-spoken bookworm in the family. Ness has a lot of fond memories of Janet reading her bedtime stories and making plans with her to see the world. Ness was sure Janet would be a some great historian or scholar but was disappointed when she dropped out of college and got married instead. She still loves her sister dearly but feels like she settled.
As for Donna, she and Ness were very, very close. Because they were so similar and close together in age, when they were kids, people often mistook them for twins. Donna was the one to get the two of them into trouble while Ness was the one to talk them out of it. Donna was the closest thing the family had to a wild child. She was fearless and Ness always admired that. Instead of pursuing a more prestigious career like their parents wanted, Donna graduated with an art degree (and with several tattoos and piercings their parents were unaware of).
Ness’s mom taught her to respect and take pride in herself. Janet encouraged her to dream big. And Donna made sure that she grew up with a sense of humor and a healthy enjoyment of bending (sometimes breaking) the rules.
The Empress in Reverse (When have they felt dependent on another?)
This one’s tough for Ness. She’s pretty independent. Earlier in her life, however, she would have depended heavily on her family. Ness would have depended on her older siblings to do a lot of the basics for her since her parents worked so much. Everything from breakfast to grooming to keeping her safe along the walk to and from school. Once George, her little brother, was school-aged, she pretty much transitioned out of being one of the “babies of the family”. By that time, her two oldest siblings were in high school and Donna was on her way into middle school. So, somebody needed to step up and be George’s protective older sister and that was Ness.
Strength (On what issue are they persistent?)
Bullying. Ness hates a bully. She did as a kid and she continues to as an adult.
“Bullying is a tool the weak use to extract respect and power that belongs only to the strong”
That is Ness’s thinking, or at least how she’s able to justify her hatred of bullies despite the fact that she is more than happy to use intimidation and force. She’s fine with going after someone who is an opponent or an obstacle. Likewise, she is fine doing whatever necessity dictates even if it’s cruel. However, the idea of an innocent person being terrorized for no other purpose than to stroke the ego of a small, weak, worthless human being really gets to her. In her eyes, that kind of person doesn’t have the right to exert any form of power.
Ness for all: The World in Reverse. Headcannons: 20
The World in Reverse (What is your character holding back?)
Lots of things. All the fear and doubt and sadness she feels. After all, what kind of strong, tough team leader lets her teammates see her cry? Dx
A couple of specific things:
1) This is the first time Ness has held a leadership position in a group of people she genuinely cares for. Hannah, Indy, and Carver are not peons or followers or pawns, they’re the best and closest friends she’s ever had. This is also the first time she’s been in a situation where the stakes include torture, pain, death, and eternal damnation. These things combined have shaken her confidence in her ability to make the right choices.
2) Even though, Hannah is back, Ness still feels guilty about letting her go out alone. When Hannah said she was going to see the florist, Ness’s first instinct was to keep everyone together or at least go with her. She’d been spooked by what Hannah said about her sister and mother, and even if she hadn’t been, it wouldn’t have been unusual for them to be out together. She felt something but doubted it and didn’t insist. She blames herself for that.
Ness’s internal, guilt-based logic on the matter: “If we were together and Cassie saw us, 3 things could’ve happen; 1) She doesn’t take the shot and Hannah makes sure we don’t get followed home just like she always does. 2) She stakes Hannah, I hide us in the Shroud, I pick up Hannah and we get the hell out of there. 3) She stakes me and the jokes on her for not taking out the stronger combatant first. Now she has to deal with a pissed off Hannah.
In any of these cases, Hannah comes home.
I already lost one sister, it was stupid to think I couldn’t lose another..”
Yes, this logic is flawed. It’s guilt-based.
20. What-ifs/Alternate Timelines
Enjoy these pictures from a timeline in which The Shades decided not to be dicks. In my mind these are pictures labelled for one of Donna’s scrapbooks.
Not shown: Ness becoming a lawyer, then a judge. Also Donna’s afro and tattoos. I just couldn’t get it to work with her wedding attire xD
Notes: Donna is the sister Ness lost at the church. Nia and Imani are the would be twin nieces belonging to her other sister, Janet.
Bonus Alternate Timeline:
Ness becomes a defense attorney, specializing in dealing with high paying criminals. She is continuously called on to represent some asshole with blue hair. Her response every time he wants to take the stand and testify in his defense - “Carver, No.”
Ness Prompt- Number 1 and number 8
#1 ‘Did you really just throw popcorn at me? Oh, it is on!’
He’d been talking trash all day long. From the moment they’d decided to go to the arcade, up until they’d placed their first quarters in the coin slots. It was shortly after that moment when Carver realized Ness’s competitive streak was good for more than just poker.
