Dash: One time I opened up to Countess Cleo about my problems. She suggested I whoosh them away with fine wine and caviar
Dash: I don't think she realizes I'm in cham-pain
We've been trying to-
WTF IS GOING ON WITH MY BOY GRAHAM COME ON
What I say: I love the art style of Carmen Sandiego
What I mean: I'm gay for Carmen Sandiego (#Jules can relate)
I liked season 4 but also i was so not ready for it to be the last season :( The ending just felt rushed to me. In one episode they (spoilers under the cut)
- took down VILE - fixed Carmen’s brainwashing - Carmen disbanded the group - Carmen found her mum - Shadowsan reunited with his brother - Zack and Ivy joined ACME?
Not to say that I don’t like all of these things, but we didn’t see Carmen’s mum, we didn’t get to know Carmen’s real name, the epilogue just showed Carmen as rounding up the remaining VILE members, with no real pay-off for her entire arc of trying to discover her past. Like yes, we know she found her mum, but there was no catharsis and yes we know VILE was arrested but it happened so quickly in a montage.
Carmen said it herself, after all of that she was ready to get back in the game, and instead Shadowsan just told her that ‘Carmen Sandiego’ is an idea that can be donned by anyone, and she can choose a different path. We didn’t even see Shadowsan and his brother talk, we don’t even see Carmen say ‘hi’ to her mum and then it’s two years later and Zack and Ivy are with Jules and Devineaux and it’s a dramatic moment that is overshadowed by that final scene because if that is the Carmen we know, she’s gone right back to her crime fighting ways even though she doesn’t have to?
But also anyone who has been watching the show knows that Carmen can’t just choose different. She has these skills and she wants to do good and she can do good and there isn’t really another option for her. This is the woman who avoided getting a building because she had no concept of a home, just ‘headquarters’, the woman who loves to travel and imprints local facts on her mind because she was never allowed to leave a single island, the woman who grew up only around VILE and built her chosen identity on the idea of opposing them. She knows nothing else, and slowly she makes friends, and sees Shadowsan was more of a parent to her than she knew, and allows herself to make a home for her found family, and then her mission is just gone. And her father figure offers her a different choice and then she just...leaves? Leaves the home she built in an old factory, says goodbye to her live-in friends with a note, and goes to meet her mum immediately, and why? Because she never had a stable childhood home, and never had a healthy moving out experience. Ordinarily when someone moves out of their parents house, if there was a good relationship there, you learn how to keep in touch and have a different relationship, but Carmen’s choice at the Isle of VILE was ‘now or never’ and that clearly echoes this leaving too.
We can hc Zack, Ivy and Shadowsan don’t let her lose contact, bc why would they? And we know she still talks to Player. But we never get to see how any of it goes for her and with the missing answers it’s hard to picture those two years. Does Player still hack other thieves so Carmen can retroactively steal things? Does Carmen work at the orphanage with her mum? Does she change her name completely? Does she use the name her parents gave her for legit work and use Carmen Sandiego for her vigilante purposes? What is her mum like? How often do Zack and Ivy visit? Does Shadowsan ever meet Carmen’s mum? AND HOW THE HELL AM I SUPPOSED TO WRITE FANFICTION WITHOUT THESE ANSWERS NETFLIX COME ON
Shout out to the two most Absolutely Heterosexual and Definitely Not Flirty™ looks that Jules gives Carmen.
Lmao when Devineaux snuck into her class Julia didn't even flinch and calmly finished the lesson then when Carmen appears she just stops functioning. This bitch gay, good for her 😂
