What Success Looks Like
Holy crow! It's been a wild 24 hours.
Yesterday, Team Kamikaze caught wind of an announcement made by Netflix that they wanted to start producing their own anime. As a team which has been crafting and promoting Kamikaze for years to be the best animated story we could make it, we were beyond excited. After being turned away by major networks because we were pitching an unproven property (i.e. not a big brand) for an unproven market (i.e. animation not for kids), here was our validation. We launched the #NetflixMakeKamikaze effort to boost the awareness of what we've accomplished so far, and the promise of where it can go.
The results are still coming in, but we've been blown away by the fan response. These aren’t just friends and family, these are fans who have connected with us at conventions, discovered us on Tapastic and Twitter, and longtime readers who have been with us from the start. We're seeing hundreds of shares, retweets, and reblogs. People are voicing a true desire to see the Kamikaze become what it was always meant to be: a fully-realized animated series. For us, that is a massive win, regardless of whether Netflix responds.
We know the chances that Netflix will respond or even acknowledge the hashtag are minimal. They are, after all, a very popular platform that even established creators have a hard time getting a chance to collaborate with. We don't plan on waiting around for them to notice us either. While we firmly believe Netflix is a great fit for Kamikaze, our strategy has always been to not wait for someone else to say yes. We don't have any solid plans we can share yet, but we are always working out how to take Kamikaze to the next level.
The passion you are showing for Kamikaze is what success looks like. You are the living proof that we're on the right track.
