Team render walk through for R15
R15 Information
Team Render is possibly a bit like Mental Ray Satellite. It's distributed rendering. Not having ever set up Satellite or Back Burner for Maya I can't comment on the similarities.
How ever - here are my notes on how to use it.
Prefs>Team Render> Enable
Makes machine visible to others for team rendering.
Security token - set to abcde for use on a friendly network.
Announce service via Bonjour (comes with iTunes and Quicktime on PC by the way)
Share machine? Off if you don't want others to grab your CPU cycles. Note green icon in bottom left of program pane.
___
Go to client machine. You can install just the client if you want.
Prefs>Team Render> Enable
Security token - set to abcde for use on a friendly network.
Announce on
Share on
Quit and relaunch! Important. Check security token is stuck on.
___
Back to original machine.
Verify where files are rendering to, choose team render folder.
Render>team render machines> - -> Local Machine then verify security tokens of team machines one by one, it should go green.
Render>team render to picture viewer…
(Slave machine should show activity)
another way is to use render queue… Set up render jobs and batch render.
Render Queue > file > add current project. Tick box for TEAM (this will use slave machines)
Activate local machine if needed: in prefs use "Share machine over network" Local machine should go green.
During render the green icon goes amber during render.
Team render completely replaces Netrender. For large render farms this will be very problematic. See C4Dcafe for a discussion about this.
