Other People’s Junk
Other People’s Junk are Kelly and Janis Quinn. Kelly had a long time desire to work with metal and build upon the welding skills that he’d learned years ago. After Kelly retired in 2007, metal garden characters started showing up throughout the Quinn’s garden. From there on the artistic wheels would keep turning. Janis retired from the finance industry in 2012 and that really kicked things up a notch for these two California natives.
Other People’s Junk has progressively evolved and now is met with much enthusiasm from the public. The couple participates in many art festivals in Placer and Nevada Counties and their unique metal sculptures are sold in several retail locations. The Quinn’s incorporate their work into everything they do, always scouting out discarded metal that can be reshaped and made into metal sculpture, “All of our work is made from recycled metal. We scout around to find discarded material that we can cut up, clean up and incorporate into art. We are pleased that our work is something that supports the repurposing effort and that we create something that can be passed through generations of a family. This truly is a feel good endeavor and something that we are grateful to be able to do for ourselves and others.”
OPJ will be at Miners Foundry December 11th for the Nevada City Craft Fair. They have a metal painting demo lined up in the Upper Gallery where you can find a wide variety of their whimsical ‘garden people’ to add to your garden art collection. You won’t want to miss that!
