I’ve never been a part of Reddit, I was never around when r/place happened, and I didn’t even hear about it until months after, this does continue to amaze me.

I keep finding new ways to be blown away by this blank canvas every time I am reminded of it. How all of these small communities banded to gether to create something so fantastic, so detailed, and so diverse.

It distilled all that is good, and terrible, and bizzare about the internet. Its community without borders, the trolls consuming all, the fervent (sometimes painfully so,) cliques.

If I had done this all by myself, there’s some things out there I would have liked to see, maybe even some I could do without. But that’s not the point. It’s not perfect. But through the efforts of so many people, it became something wonderful.

During timelapses you can watch this ecosystem evolve. You may see something disagreeable or broken or wrong come about. But in the end, things turn out okay.
