Aubrey always did make sure that Ozemir felt special this time of year. She didn’t know what it was like having a birthday on a holiday, but she’d be dammed if he got pushed to the side. It was one of the few times that they didn’t have a new years eve celebration, in fact. Nobody had come over the night before on Aubreys insistence on wanting it to be just them, and upon midnight? He got his typical kiss. One that lingered and lasted, maybe longer than just a minute or two. Regardless, the next day? Was certainly all about him.
Having donuts ready, and even some coffee (neither of which she made of course), Aubrey happily snuggled on the couch with him, spending half the day until insisting on going to lunch with him. Except it wasn’t just a lunch.
It was a full surprise party, not just for Ozemir but Joel too!! She just had somebody else bringing Joel.
“SURPRISE!!!” Smiling warmly to Ozemir, Aubrey drew him for a kiss again before joining him to mingle with the closest friends. Naturally Peach and Dusty were dressed up in their best … how she pulled that off good luck figuring it out.

It was funny being born on a national holiday. on the start of the new year, where everyone declared that they were going to be an entirely different person than the last year. ozemir was often sucked into the holidays as well though. if it wasn’t for aubrey and others in his life, he’d probably always spend forgetting the day was even his birthday.
the changing of the time, with the quiet celebration within their little family. it was all he needed honestly. ozemir never asked for much, nor did he liked being spoiled with anything. being able to be close to aubrey as he was, enjoying eating with her and spending time with her, it was all he ever needed. course, he could always expect aubrey doing much more than just that.
following her for “lunch” & suddenly seeing his brother coming along too – he couldn’t help but be suspicious. then, he was quickly met with the sounds of people yelling surprise toward him. there was a genuine surprise expression on his face as he looked toward everyone there. then back at aubrey again. the large smile rose on his face – one that was usually reserved for her alone. “ so fucking sneaky aren’t you …” he muttered, as he leaned down to kiss her again. and again .. and again. forgetting about the party and simply indulging in his happiness towards aubrey’s sneaky ways.
how she did it he’d never know. usually he could tell when she was keeping secrets. how she managed to not tell him either, to blurt it out with her usual excitement. really … she was just too amazing wasn’t she ? how did he get so lucky. / @never-refrain
