catalina salazar's life has been separated cleanly into two sections: before keaton hayes and after keaton hayes, some days, it's hard to tell which side of the fence she wants to be on. nobody brings her down the way he does but nobody else knows how to build her back up, either. it's a vicious cycle -- one that seems to never end despite the downright crazy things that go on between them. of course, catalina knows she isn't crazy. not entirely, anyway -- unstable is a better word, though it isn't likely she'll ever admit that. especially not now. it is his fault and it will always be his fault. he deserves it. destroying the car she'd bought him as a birthday gift is minor compared to the pain she'd felt when she'd seen him at the club with another girl and the overwhelming anger she'd felt when he denied it right to her face. the craziest part about all of it though wasn't even the cheating or the baseball bat that she had taken to his windshield; it was simply the fact that maybe, for the first time in forever, she guinenly feets bad. not for destroying the car (of course), or causing a scene in the neighborhood (he hates that). but because she can't shake the feeling that when she'd told him that she hated him this time, she might have actually meant it.
his car is gone now but the evidence that she'd destroyed it still litters the street. glass crunches beneath her nikes like a sick reminder of the mess she left behind. with each step, her chest tightens. she's not sure why she's here, or what she's going to say, but cat can't take another minute knowing that things between them are this bad. the front door is open but she can't bring herself to come inside. for the first time, she doesn't feel welcome. so she stands there for a moment, chewing the corner of her lip, wondering if she can get out of here before she's spotted because now she's having second thoughts. however, before she has the chance to escape, his youngest sister rounds the corner and spots her. she yells for keaton and cat's heart feels like it's suddenly stalled inside her chest. fuck.
