Mage: A story of personal horror through botching
So I’m playing a game of Mage the Ascension and my character, Nevil finds out that a vampire is visiting his girlfriend’s roommate. Naturally, Nevil is worried about his girlfriend being visited by a vampire. So Nevil grabs a friend of his that can set up some vampire wards around the student housing that his girlfriend and her roommate live in. Nev knocks on the door, and the roommate answers.
Now Nevil is covered head to toe in tattoos, has a huge beard and long viking hair. The roommate is a super timid girl attending a catholic college. She sees Nev and sort of freezes in terror before asking what he and his associate were doing there.
I roll to lie. Critical botch.
So Nev explains to the girl that he’s a part of a prison rehabilitation program and that he was here to sell magazines despite not having any pamphlets or brochures about it.
She rolls for lie detection. Critical botch
“Sure come on in!”
So we set up the wards while she’s making tea for us. Nev doesn’t know for certain that these are vampires he’s dealing with, so he decides to impart a cautionary tale about the one time *HE* had met a scary vampire. [Lie]
Roll to lie. Critical botch.
Nev makes up this ridiculous story about an angry biker with glowing eyes and a devil tattoo where the eyes lined up with the guy’s nipples who got pissed and threw a motorcycle at him because of an unresolved prison debt.
She rolls for lie detection. Critical botch
She buys it. The ST and I had a good laugh about that.
