"The advance of the Gunboats up the river to New Berne, N. Carolina. Passing the Barricade", watercolor sketch by Herbert Eugene Valentine, 3/14/1862

Image description: Watercolor painting, view up a wide river. A barricade of half-sunken boats stretches about two-thirds of the way across the river. Steam-powered boats travel through the unobstructed lane. In the distance we see a large cloud of smoke.
Even More Bridge by Jon Celotto Via Flickr: I finally did it! After several failed attempts, I was able to catch P97 arriving before sunset. Ironically, the sun came out from behind a massive cloud about 3 seconds before I took this. Although I wouldve preferred the unit being short hood forward, I cant complain about how this shot turned out.
