Producer Bambeeno and emcee Kixxie Siete come together to drop some tracks from their upcoming project called 7AM tomorrow at EYES UP. Check them out:
(Bambeeno) There are many self taught producers. How important is it to get "professional" training like you did at a school?
It was more important on the technical side. It taught me the Music language. Learning what meant what, what does what. Back then I was just making beats just cuz I enjoyed making them, but didn't really know exactly what I was doing. School taught me how to make an actual song. The whole process of it, from recording to learning what effects to use on a vocal, on certain instruments, or how to make this kick drum bang harder. I mean of course you can teach yourself all that. But I guess I took a short cut by learning it at school. My beats on the other hand, I still have that same process from when I taught myself just different and improved equipment/software.
(B) 7AM is the title of your next project with emcee Kixxie Siete. Tell us about that mixtape and your relation with the artist.
Kix is like my little brother now. I met him through my manager Jovin. Jovin came through one night and showed me Kix's YouTube videos. Once I heard him, I became a fan. And I'm pretty picky on who I work with, but told Jovin I had to meet Kix. Jovin set up a meeting the following week. Kix and I met, and the chemistry was there. Almost like love at first hear. We both knew at that point we had to work on a project together and that's what happened with "7AM". Kix came up with the title ‘cause he said we are both slept on, but it's 7AM now, so it's time for everyone to wake up.
(Kixxie) Tell me a little bit about your writing process.
Marijuana induced trances. At times if the beat is magical, I literally see words in the air and the song writes itself. Other than that, the instrumental on repeat and bars first. I tend to experiment with a couple different hooks, and they are always written after the first verse though people advise the hook must be written first. I tend to write really slow, too.
(K) You're 22. What have you been doing to get you and your talent out there?
I started writing at 11 and text-battling on rap forums online, which really helped with writing and structuring solid bars. The art of writing was taken a lot more seriously in those forums, though they aren’t as popular now. I always kept my rapping to myself until 2008 when I decided to showcase my talent.
(K) You run with a crew called Yacht Klub. Who are they and what do they stand for?
Yacht = big money, dreaming big. It encompasses the South Bay surfer, stoney, beachy lifestyle. Just some kids from the street trying go as big as they can. As for now the music Yacht Klub puts out is from me and Artie McCraft but there are 6 of us in the team.
(K) You've told me that your biggest influences were like Eminem and Mos Def, for example. Has that changed? Why or why not?
Not at all, though I prefer "slim shady" over Eminem. Em and Mos were always the most interesting to listen to. Nobody put words together the way they did. I still think Stan by Em is one of the best songs ever written, flow-wise in letter form.
(B) What’s next for you after 7AM drops?
I'll be working on my own project. All production from me and various artists on them. If you follow me on twitter, you'll see who I'm in the talks of working with...Gonna be Clvssix though.
(B) Where are you now with your career?
The moment you stop trying to get better, somebody is catching up. And I feel like I’m still far behind, but I’m creeping up fast.
