New PowerPuff Girl member? (Spoiler Alert)
Sooo, I'm glad Cartoon network is deciding to bring a black girl into their reboot of the PowerPuff Girls. Here, I'm hoping it's Bunny from the original or Bell from the PowerPuff Girls D comic (you should read it, it's good) but what I get is a black girl with blue hair, hips that isn't like a 5 year old, and mad tall. I don't mind and all, but why is her name Bliss? Of all the names, it has to be Bliss? It doesn't even follow the flow of Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup. Even Bunny followed the name flow. Oh well, imma still watch the show to see this new Bliss girl :P
i still cant believe that the unicorn episode of new PPG was real and not just some fucked up dream i had
Alternative story to the Horn Sweet Horn episode of New Powerpuff Girls
Ok so like everybody else I hate the new ppg show. It did everything wrong and Horn Sweet Horn was probably the worst episode ever. Im not trans, nor do I have any close friends who are, but even so I still cringed horribly at this episode. I don’t know what kind of message, if any, they were trying to get across but if it was supposed to be a positive one, they screwed up BIG time. The writing was super messy and by the end of the episode I had no idea what I was supposed to think. The only message I got from the show was “trans people are monsters!” (As seen by the horse turning into one when he chooses to officially transition) or that kids who identify as trans shouldn’t be proud of who they are because if they start opening up to people (ie the horse choosing to turn into a unicorn) then people will just fear and hate them (the horse instead turns into a monster and wreacks havoc). The whole episode felt like it was punishing trans people rather than showing kids and parents out there that they are just like them, normal human beings.
But anyway that episode was on my mind a lot today and I decided I would try to make my take on the story. Here’s how I think the story should’ve gone:
Ok so basically first off, introduce the horse character, he’s a well-loved figure all around and is the star of some horse-related show. The girls Bubbles, Blossom and Buttercup, have gone with Prof Utonium to one of his shows. Everything goes well and at the end Bubbles is given permission to meet the horse backstage. However she then sees that all this time he was a unicorn, to which he panics and pleads her not to freak out. Bubbles is, of course, amazed at the sight of a real unicorn, that can talk too but becomes confused as to why the unicorn begins to panic. The unicorn explains to her that people have never seen unicorns before and so will hate him if they find out, to which she encourages him, telling him that he shouldn’t be ashamed of himself and proudly tell everyone. She promises the unicorn that everything will be fine
So eventually, during one of the shows, the unicorn reveals his horn and dazzles everyone with his magic (at this point everyone thinks it’s all part of the show and cheer). And by the end he proudly reveals to everyone that he is a real unicorn. Unfortunately no one believes him and begin to laugh, saying that he’s just a horse with wild dreams. The mob grows larger and one kid begins to throw food at him, and everyone joins. The unicorn leaves the show.
TV and newspapers begin to flood with stories about how a famous show horse has quit his job to chase dreams and even go as far as calling him crazy. Millions of used-to-be fans mock him on interviews. Meanwhile the unicorn is cornered constantly by the press and haters. He eventually disappears from Townsville.
Bubbles goes in search for him, finding him out in a forest, there she tries to consolidate with him but he pushes her away, stating that she had lied to him about people accepting who he really was, he wishes he could break off his horn. She urges him not to, saying that he shouldn’t hate himself because of close-minded people and shouldn’t let that stop him from being proud about his true self. But he doesn’t listen. Blossom and Buttercup come to tell Bubbles that a monster is destroying Townsville, and she flies away with them, defeated.
The girls try to fight the monster off, but are defeated. The monster is about to finish them off when the unicorn appears to save them, using magic to fight it off. The girls all hug the unicorn, with Bubbles saying that she knew she could believe in him. But during this point the monster has grabbed hold of a boy, the same one that threw food at the unicorn. Bubbles asks the unicorn to join forces with them and they all fight the monster off one last time, with the citizens of Townsville taking notice of the unicorn helping them. The monster dies but in one last attempt throws a fireball at the child. The unicorn shields the child as an explosion goes off. Bubbles flies over, followed by some citizens and they all see that neither the unicorn or the boy are badly harmed. The unicorn gets up and people start to accuse the unicorn of attacking the child, but before Bubbles or the unicorn can say anything, the boy gets up and tells everyone to stop. He goes on about how he had mocked the unicorn, but despite the hate they had thrown at him, he saved the boys life. The boy hugs the unicorn, and turns to everyone and points out that they shouldn’t show hate and prejudice towards the unicorn. When he was still a show horse they loved him, and that a horn or wings or anything else shouldn’t be what changes their mind or what determines who he is on the inside. He loved the citizens of Townsville regardless, and he deserved to be loved back. Everyone cheers and surround the unicorn, who thanks Bubbles.
Cut to a few months later and the unicorn is back in show bussiness, now amazing everyone with his magic. More and more unicorns begin to appear and people now love them regardless.
The end.
PS
This take on the story is COMPLETELY open to critisism if you feel like I could’ve improved, added to or removed certain points. As I said I’m not trans nor do I know anyone who is so if I made an incorrect judgememt then by ALL means let me know! As someone who wants to get better at story-telling and get across messages to do with real-world issues I wanted to do this as an excercise to test my skill and see if people like it or not.
Adios.
there’s a distinct difference between “well this show is supposedly even though it’s clearly aimed at nostalgic adults like TTG instead of children like the original PPG aimed at children and to an extent you should lighten up on your criticisms and try to say ‘well, you know,’ although we can acknowledge it’s not a very good show”
and
“it’s a transphobic mess cartoon for kids stop criticizing it uvu”
@literally everyone who tries to dismiss any criticism on the PPG reboot (a universally panned reboot enjoyed by virtually no fanbase, whereas even the most innocent of tv shows usually had some kind of older fanbase) as “it’s just for kids”
why do you hate kids and why do you think we should assume they’re all idiots incapable of understanding or appreciating anything more than shitty memes and forced-adult humor (you know, like The Stayovering, the literal third episode that makes literally no sense unless you’ve seen The Hangover, a rated R movie that little kids should not watch)?
why is it not clear that like Teen Titans Go this is a show that is not aimed for children, but rather nostalgic adults with a guaranteed fanbase in the hopes it’ll coattails Teen Titans Go’s success?
even if it was, the fact that it tries to teach young children transphobia (two transphobic moments in the first five episodes, with one episode giving special mention ot literally being Transphobia: The Episode) and the writers thinks this is a Good Thing alone kind of gives people the right to be critical of this shit?
i don’t know what to say at this point other than this cartoon is bad
it’s a spiritual, visual, writing disaster in every sense of the word
a failure as a children’s show
a failure as a nostalgia trip
a failure in ratings
just
a failiure
the ppg reboot is amazing in how universially loathed it is
tumblr hates it
4chan hates it
even reddit hates it
litetally nobody likes it
and CN has decided to bring us a new episode every day for two weeks
literally nobody wants this anymore and i can only imagine its decline in ratings
