Elementary Renewed for Season 7
Thanks to its overseas popularity and its being owned by CBS.
Hope LL got her a co-EP credit and big fat salary bump and at least an alternating first opening credit. Oh, and of course a #newshowrunner with a diverse writers room.

My snarky comments in parens:
PRE-FINALE: Determined to take down SBK, Shinwell “has the temerity to approach Joan and ask for a favor” after severely beating her partner, executive producer Rob Doherty shares. “He realizes that to move up into the upper echelon of the gang…someone has to go.” So he wants the P.I. to prove that a particular lieutenant “committed a felony that will put him behind bars and allow Shinwell to ascend.” (Let’s see so this is the what, fifth or so favor he’s asked of her this season? They couldn’t think of one other scenario that would put them back in touch? Like maybe his cop handler asks them to do it so they can finally close the case and charge Shinwell with the beating so he goes back to prison too?)
The April 30 episode, in which Bell must contend with not being able to investigate his girlfriend’s physical assault, offers “a much better sense of [the detective’s] upbringing and why we don’t hear much about [his] dad.” (Probably because we don’t hear much about anybody’s family save Sherlock’s).
Finally, a “significant person from Sherlock’s past” makes her first appearance in the penultimate installment. (Considering the below re: the season finale, doesn’t seem likely to be that significant. Maybe a Mom flashback?)
SEASON FINALE (MAY 21): “SBK lands squarely in Sherlock and Joan’s cross-hairs,” Doherty previews. “We’re going to meet the brains behind SBK [and] more of the players and the people that Shinwell has alluded to.” But the deeper the duo get into the investigation, “the more strain [it puts on their] relationship,” the EP says. “We’re going to see them not working at odds, but working very independently of one another.”
(BOO. I want them TOGETHER, not working apart. Or at ODDS, not just separate. I hate this whole damn f-up of an arc. Here’s how it should’ve gone -- JW should’ve known exactly what Shinwell was attempting to do every step of the way in terms of his plan and building a case, Chantal should’ve been involved in the investigation, SH should’ve stuck his nose in almost blowing the whole cover, JW should’ve said -- I know what I’m doing, back off or else, Shinwell gets to the final plot point that he needs to pay everything off, and all hell breaks loose, leaving them all in emotional/physical jeopardy.)
(Freaking RD.
So he leaves the show in a cliffhanger in a blatant attempt to get at least 9 eps of a Season 6 out of CBS to resolve / placate fans, ala POI. But I think CBS is priming them for a move to streaming.)

”CBS this morning gave early renewals to 11 returning and five freshman series. Those that are staying on the bubble after not making the list include several veterans — dramas Elementary and Criminal Minds, comedy 2 Broke Girls and reality stalwart The Amazing Race.
Unlike the mothership Criminal Minds, 2 Broke Girls and Elementary find themselves in an unfamiliar territory as they have been regulars on CBS’ early renewal lists in the past. Elementary, now in its fifth season, is a bit of a conundrum. Its ratings have slipped further this year in the Sunday 10 PM slot, though, while its demo rating dropped 33% to a 1.2 (L+7), in total viewers, the metric CBS uses, Elementary (7.4 million) is off by 18.7%, in line with most of linear declines for returning series. Elementary is 100% owned by CBS. It has off-network and SVOD deals with WGN America, Hulu Plus and broadcast stations that fetch in as much as $3 million total per episode that have a couple more seasons on them; and it is a solid international seller too. Just last May, CBS Corp. CEO Les Moonves used Elementary as an example of a program ownership success story, telling investors that the show had “made approximately an $80 million profit for the corporation” the previous year. The network seems to want to keep a few slots open for its new crop of pilots but Elementary is considered a serious contender for a renewal.”
Now’s the time to chime in people. I don’t want to see LL and JLM stuck in this show without a change behind-the-scenes.

Get Your Shinwell Sh-t Together, Elementary
I have more to say about last night’s ep “Dead Man’s Tale” (don’t I always?) but let me just start with the fact that OF COURSE the writers have completely mishandled this whole Shinwell story. It disappears for weeks, then rears its ugly head -- but only for Sherlock of course (and yes, they always do this, but it still irks).
We’ve not seen a lick of evidence of this supposed deep friendship he and Joan now share, nor have we seen any sort of really deep personal need Shinwell has to get even with SBK. He’s so f-ing laid back in 99% of his scenes, that we’ve never even seen his righteous anger or passion against the gang until now. It’s still unclear -- was he saying that the gang forced him to kill his friend? Just cuz they asked? And that little speech he made about drugs ruining lives? WTF? That Sherly beatdown came out of nowhere and made zero character sense.
Why not have them be practicing boxing, like they f-ing set up, and have Shinwell get so frustrated with SH’s smug know-it-allness that he goes whaling on him in the ring instead of laying in wait to beat him up?
Just think how much more powerful this season would’ve been if Shinwell had a clear plan he was executing to take down the gang, that Watson was instrumental in devising and was thus, emotionally involved in, as it went through its inevitable failures and successes. And now, just when they’re closing in on the big bad gangster guy, SH sticks his fat nose in where it doesn’t belong, tho both Shinwell AND JW asked him not to. Now, the mission would possibly be in danger, JW and Shinwell could be compromised and we have tons of tension and emotion cause SH didn’t trust JW to handle her own investigation/protege.
Now we just have JW looking like a damn fool for just blindly believing in this guy. She’s so behind in her own storyline that she doesn’t know the daughter story was wrapped weeks ago. This f-ing show!
Every single supposed “arc” is so incredibly half-baked and poorly thought-out, not to mention executed. RD flails his way through season after season -- the whole freaking Dad thing, the partner break-up, the fall off the wagon, JW’s reaction to Andrew’s demise, MORI-F-ING-ARTY!! SERIOUSLY??? Sigh. #EndRant
#Elementary “Rekt in Real Life” the Straw That Broke the Camel’s Back?
Judging by the overwhelmingly scathing comments on the always-cogent AV Club review, we weren’t alone is deeming this one of the worst episodes in the history of the show. We can only hope that some of TPTB take note and decide to take action.

@writergeekrhw Is the writing staff aware of viewer concerns abt this season’s stories and if so, what’s being done to address them?
Meanwhile, I plan to force myself into a rewatch, but only to time the scenes in which the only thing on screen is people sitting down and yammering. I’m wagering 38 out of 42 minutes.

I’ve been waiting for this day! The actors deserve better and so do the characters. Oh I’m SO happy.

The thing I love the most about Beth getting the job as Arrow Showrunner, is that she earned it.
She didn't get it because she's a woman. Let's face it, after the AK scandal, they needed some good pr. But it doesnt feel like this is the reason behind it.
She started off as an assistant and worked her way up to be a staff writer, producer and now executive producer and showrunner.
Arrow has a female showrunner. Sole showrunner. The show that kickstarted all of this. The show that I love so much did that. Kudos.
