Coinciding with the launch of the New Deal Heritage Collection 2020, which commemorates the 30th anniversary of the launch of New Deal Skateboard Products, longtime friends and collaborators Shepard Fairey and Andy Howell co-curate an exhibition to celebrate the brand and its impact on creative and popular culture. The exhibition will feature original works by the team riders and artists of New Deal, a group show of artists inspired by the era, and various art and ephemera from collectors who have helped to preserve the New Deal legacy. #mynewdealstory : This is a drawing of me, circa 1990-91, shotgunning the @newdealskateboards “Spray Can” graphic...I was pretty dang obsessed with the art coming from New Deal, it was right in line with everything I wanted to see and feel and the time, and to end up doing art for them for @mikevallely was more than I could have imagined. This is the painting I made for the Subliminal Projects #NewDeal1990 show opening this Saturday. I wanted to remix Ed Templeton’s original graphic with my own version of his characters (swipe left to see it). While I was staring at his original drawing as a reference for this I thought about how much I have been inspired by @Ed.templeton and @deannatempleton Also, in reading more about the history of New Deal, it sounds like it evolved into Giant Distribution later which supported 411 Video Magazine and Element Skateboards. Is that right skateboard friends? @lisawhtkr ?If that’s true then the Villa Villa Cola skate video we made called Getting Nowhere Faster also benefited from this history because it was heavily supported by 411VM and Element. Thanks so much to @andyhowell43 And @obeygiant for including me is this show.
