the scientists from pacific rim are crazy because u see people shipping them and watch the movie and go "ok two guys who share a lab and bicker a lot but ultimately come together in the end sure makes sense" and then u find out that they wrote letters to each other for years before meeting and when they did finally see each other in person it went so horribly that they never saw each other again until they both started working at the same place where one files complaints agaisnt the other so often that their work just ignores it and newt has musician parents and likes manga and has borderline manic personality and plays the keyboard and hermann is estranged from his dad because they take opposite stances on the war and he also has a pregnant wife who is a model and he distances himself from emotions with math and both of these guys are german and u think this is all fanon stuff but no it's all true it just wasn't in the movie like ok

so, i accidentally ruined this piece of fanart that i got in a newmann zine years ago. i was really upset when i found it, but the more i look at it, the more it's almost poetic because the closer they get to kissing, the more damaged it is... it's almost like an old relic that hermann keeps that reminds him how much newt has changed and how much their relationship is gone after the second movie's events...
