New Mexico will receive new federal funding to support its opioid response, reports KUNM. The U.S. Health Resources and Service Administration has marked $2 million for opioid training and programs in the city of Espanola. Those funds are part of an $80 million federal effort to support state efforts to address the opioid crisis.Because of the funds, both Rio Arriba County and El Centro Family Health will receive $1 million for their addiction treatment efforts. Rio Arriba faces one of the highest fatal opioid overdose rates in the country, but only received its funding after KUNM reported that similar drug-death rates in white American counties brought funding to those places.
