The name Angola comes from the Ndonga title “ngola,” meaning king. The Kingdom of Ndonga seems to have derived from the Kingdom of Kongo, with historical references first recorded in the early Sixteenth Century. Even after the Portuguese arrived, the political borders remained in flux pretty much until today, which explains why Angola has an EXCLAVE province....the province of Cabinda [more on Cabinda later], separated from the rest of Angola by the Democratic Republic of Congo.
