Misfire
“So how does it work?”
N’hara looked up from his collection of components. A massive smile crossed over his face at the question, his tail swaying like a kitten on his nameday.
“Well,” the salt-and-pepper miqo’te took a deep breath. “Each of your bullets contains a bit of fire crystal shavings embedded into the copper heads. The gunpowder in the cartridge is what creates the chemical reaction that propels the head, but it’s the crystal shavings that give it a little extra kick and explosion on impact. Now...” he dug into his notes and pulled out a complicated looking diagram, setting it open and pointing along as he spoke.
“When the bullet heads strike the target and explode, it releases ambient aether; it’s a small yet noticeable amount and it dissipates into the surrounding environment very quickly. Now, you capitalize on this with the Wildfire unit.” He set down a large, metal orb with a heavy thunk. “You take this, and throw it at your target. Low-levels of lighting aspected aether creates a static cling that locks it to your target, at which point you fire as many bullets at the same target as possible. Those small amounts of released aether are collected by the Wildfire unit and stored. After ten seconds, the unit overloads, taking all that stored aether and uses it to create an intense explosion that’ll blow a hole in even the heaviest of monster hides.”
N’hara crossed his arms over his chest, looking rather pleased with himself and his detailed explanation. That pleased mood slowly fell apart when X’ani looked at him as if he’d spoken complete gibberish from the beginning.
“No, I meant how do you shoot it?” X’ani looked over the gun in his hand. There were a few other odd components attached to it, it actually made N’hara wonder where the smaller miqo’te had even bought it and why they tried to make it more complex than it actually was.
“You click the safety on the side and then pull the black trigger.”
“Like this?” X’ani’s hands made two quick clicks of the safety switches on the gun and a loud crack followed immediately after. There was also a shattering of glass and the sound of a very upset Maelstrom Officer.
