Mysterious and unknown, the Kraken lives deep in the seas, a fear of lone ships. It will likely be a while before the rest of the world understands exactly what Seattle brings to the international community. The do, however, have many colors. The shades of blue all are calls to the local geography--the cold, the rain, and the deep sea. However, the shades of blue also represent the deep desire of the people to have their own state, a dream now coming true. The red, for now, is a warning: the Kraken are coming.

A beautiful area geographically and inhabited by passionate people, it only makes sense that they would use their own nickname as their symbol, though they also use the orca as an animal symbol, as the killer whale makes the region’s waters its home as well. The green, grey, and blue all hold geographical markers; fertility, strength, and depth are also the region for the colors. There is an even deeper blue used at times, when the deep connections of the people need to be illustrated. The white stands for the elegance of the region and people, a perfect balance of power, beauty, and intelligence.

While at first glance, using a penguin as your symbol may seem odd, the penguin is a feat of evolution and unconventionality, characteristics proudly found in Pittsburgh. The penguin stands tall in black, yellow, and gold. The black is for the strength of the citizens. The yellow for recent riches the region has come into. And the gold for the historic success the area and the people have seen.

The people of Dallas chose deep green as a color in order to illustrate the prosperity they seek. The black stands for the past, always remembered. Finally, the silver symbolizes the treasures within their land that they will share with the world beyond one day.

While “flyer” may not evoke strong feelings, the power and intrigue of  a vague symbol could be just as interesting, and Philadelphia is banking on that. They want to be intimidating. Hence, the colors. The fiery orange represents the passion of the people, ready for anything. The black symbolizes the determination to achieve their goals. The white illustrates the power that the people have in and around the region.

Minnesota is Wild territory--a place full of mystery, power, and beauty. The dark green of the landscape reminds someone either of where they are or where they’re from, a place of deep history. The sandy, color of wheat acts similarly, but instead of creating a feeling of history, it evokes the felling of hope for the future. The deep red symbolizes the mentality of the hard working people of Minnesota. They work hard to get the job done. Finally, the gold is for the treasure that exists within the mystery and beauty of the land and the people.

Every year is new. Every year they return. Maple trees may have their leaves fall once a year, but every year, they return, for a hundred years or more. They have history and staying power. Thus, Toronto uses the maple leaf as their symbol. Strong, sturdy, always present. The colors of the flag of Toronto are deep blue and white. The white is for the rich history the people have already enjoyed. The blue stands for the wealth that the region and people can draw on--even when times are tough, they know the future is bright.
