An outspoken visual artist who was instrumental in the production of Macklemore and Ryan Lewis' award-winning "Same Love" video is planning to hit the road on behalf of bullied lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) youth.

In January, Nic Adenau hopes to journey across the West Coast for "20," which will document the everyday experiences of 20 LGBT youth through the mediums of photography and verbal interviews. The 20 stories will be the basis for a website and an art book, proceeds from which will be donated to combat LGBT bullying.

Adenau, a Portland, Ore. resident who was previously nominated for the American Library Association's Over the Rainbow Award for April 21st, 2011: The American LGBT Experience, told The Huffington Post he hopes the project will help straight youth (along with their parents and school administrators) better "understand" and "empathize with" their LGBT counterparts.

"Although marriage equality is a critical step in the legal representation of the gay community, I want to direct my energy towards issues that don’t receive as much attention," he wrote. Of his work on the "Same Love" video with Macklemore, Adenau recalled, "He is the hardest working and most humble person I have ever met ... His dedication to LGBT equality is incredible. It’s inspired me to consistently make an effort towards positively impacting the LGBT community no matter how hectic my schedule may seem."
