Parthenius, Love Romances
Oh cool another story where Athena avenges a woman… but she also makes another woman suffer, does the punishment fit the crime? lol not really but that’s Greek mythology.
Im actually taken aback that Nicandra isn’t a slave, she’s a free woman with her own job and she’s so proud of that job that she’ll ask a goddess to punish a princess. Interesting to see Athena look out for a regular Joe and defending her labour rights instead of helping the royalty.
I also appreciate that Xanthus isn’t a terrible person, like he actually tries to comfort her which comes in stark contrast to some writers (Nonnus) having women get punished by getting raped, it also differentiates him from Paris since I don’t think there’s any story where he comforts Helen (tho I could be wrong). I wonder if Athena had her own love powers (like Zeus) or if she asked Aphrodite for assistance.
