Dear child(ren),
The trick to getting anything done is to take it one step at a time. A few short months ago I made up my mind to start a reading series. I sent my friend Nick a text message and he said he would drive to Little Rock to be my first reader. I asked Will if I could have the reading at his church and he said he’d cut me a deal on rent. I asked one of the professors at my veteran’s study if she had any students who might want to also read something and she had Anushah send me her beautiful essay. I asked Phillip if he might want to play some low-key tunes at the reading, and he liked the idea. I emailed the Arkansas Times about listing the event on their calendar, and they ended up printing this nice little write-up. Ninety-ish days from the time I decided I wanted to do something until the time that something actually came to fruition. Build a network of interesting people and you’ll be impressed with the things you can make happen. I certainly am.
