It had been weeks since you last saw him. Nicholas. The man who’d always been your rock, your companion, the one who made you feel safe and loved. But for the last several days, he'd been away on business—urgent, important, and undeniably far away. He’d promised he’d come back soon, but you couldn't help the aching emptiness that had settled deep in your chest. The quietness of the house felt louder without him. The bed, once warm with his presence, felt cold and distant.

You tried to distract yourself with work, hobbies, even a late-night movie, but everything seemed so... hollow. You missed his voice, the sound of his laughter, the way his touch always felt like home. It was hard not to think about him constantly.

Tonight was no different. The loneliness had crept back in again as the hours stretched on, the weight of his absence nearly unbearable. Curling up on the couch, you hugged a pillow tightly against your chest, your mind wandering to thoughts of him. You could still picture his eyes—dark and full of warmth, the way he looked at you like you were everything.

as you sat on the couch watching yet another long, boring movie, the sound of the door clicking open startled you.

Your heart leapt, and you sat up quickly, hearing the familiar sound of footsteps. You knew that sound anywhere. Nicholas.

“Baby?” His voice was a soft murmur as he stepped into the living room, the low light from the hallway making his figure seem like a shadow of comfort in the dim space.

You froze, staring at him in disbelief. There he was, standing before you, his dark hair a bit tousled from travel, his sharp jawline dotted with a few days’ worth of stubble. He looked just as exhausted as he did beautiful, but the sight of him—standing there—was like a balm to the ache you’d been feeling for so long.

“Nicholas…” your voice cracked slightly as you stood, rushing to him, your heart swelling with emotion. He immediately opened his arms, and you melted into him, wrapping your arms around his torso as he held you close, his warmth seeping into your skin.

“I’m so sorry,” he whispered into your hair, his fingers tangling in the strands. “I didn’t mean to be gone so long.”

You sighed softly, tilting your head back to look up at him. “it's okay. I just... I missed you so much.” you mumbled.

His gaze softened, his thumb tracing the side of your face with gentle tenderness. “I missed you too. More than you can imagine.” His lips hovered just above yours, his breath warm against your skin.

Before you could react, he pressed his forehead to yours, and you felt the weight of all the distance between you disappear. He gave a small, loving smile, pulling you closer.

“Let’s just stay like this for a while,” he murmured. “I’ve missed holding you.”

You nodded, squeezing him tighter as if to never let go. He brushed his lips over your forehead, lingering there for a moment. The world felt so much brighter now that he was here again, right by your side.

“You’re back,” you whispered, the words feeling like a dream come true. “I’m so glad you’re home.”

“I’m home,” he repeated, a soft chuckle escaping him as he gently rocked you both back and forth. “And I’m not leaving anytime soon. I promise.”

The warmth of his embrace, the feeling of his heartbeat against yours, everything about this moment made you feel safe, loved, and whole. It had been hard without him, but now that he was back, everything was right again.

He pulled back slightly, looking into your eyes with a look full of affection. “How about we just relax tonight? I’ll make dinner, we can watch a better movie," he laughed as he glanced at the movie on the screen.

You smiled, feeling your heart flutter. “That sounds perfect.”

As he helped you settle on the couch, you rested your head against his chest, feeling the steady beat of his heart. You let out a content sigh, knowing that everything was going to be okay now. Nicholas was home, and that was all that mattered.
