Mentally, Nick was keeping note of all of the things he planned on telling Sal in a letter when he got back to his dorm.  It would go something like:

My Dearest Little,

I miss you so much.  The fact I couldn't say goodbye and give you a giant hug breaks my heart.  I know you must be having a fantastic time.  Just keep safe and don't forget to come home, alright?  I'm still working on the TARDIS, it may be done when you get home, maybe even before- well even if I get it done now I can just go back in time and pick you up and we could travel the universe together.  I'll be sure to send you care packages, full of different types of bread and other random items of course- a mirror for the weeping angels, a few pokeballs ( a master ball as well of course), a sonic screwdriver, you know... the basics.  I'll write more later.
