(CurseRap: Real Talk With Real Artists)
(CurseRap: Real Talk With Real Artists)
In this brand new episode of CurseRap, best-selling author, Jason Myers(exit here, The Mission)talks with artist, movie score composer, producer and co-founder of the San Francisco based record label, Slept On Records, Nick Andre.
Over the past decade and a half, Andre has worked with acclaimed indie bands, Her Space Holiday and Dirty Ghosts. Plus he helped form the fascinating but vastly underrated electro-pop band, City Light.
Hip-hop, however, is where Andre has left his largest imprint. He's worked closely with the legendary, indie rap group, Blackalicious, and with members from the Quannum and Living Legends crew. He's also played shows with the likes of Pharcyde, El-p, and Dr. Octagon.
Recently, Andre helped form the new and critically acclaimed group, Conrad The Band. And he just finished working on the new record by Bay Area hip-hop legend, Lateef the Truth Speaker.
I missed it. The end of Her Space Holiday came about as quietly as the beginning, and all together unbeknownst to me. Even in his most hopeful beginnings Marc's music was so human, so honest that you knew someday it had to end.
Listening to Marc Bianchi the last 10 or so years has been like having a friend to grow with. Marc's projects, especially the ones under his HSH moniker are so incredibly personal and full of candor that it's hard not to grow attached to this artist. What is truly sad, however, is that Marc may continue go unacknowledged in years to come for his massive contributions to the state of indie and indie electronic music today. Back in 1996, few people were making their very own electronic music, much less turning that music into records and peddling it themselves. Marc's nostalgic sounds betray his vision of the future. Have a listen to any record of his from the past ten years and tell me that they weren't leading the way to right where music is today. Or, just have a listen and enjoy. It's easy to do.
This mixtape is something he cooked up with Nick Andre and Urb magazine as a teaser for his last album under HSH, titled, simply: Her Space Holiday.
