Producing was an interesting experience to say the least. Since I've been to film school, and even a little bit before, I've never wanted to produce. With my first short, one could say that I produced a bit of it myself, be that as it may the difference between producing something for myself and something for someone else is much less stressful. Often on this Production I stressed about not filling out the right paper work or loosing locations or not having enough money for food to feed everyone. It's all kind of on you and no one wants a fuck up.
Once everything's put into place, paid for, and secured…the producer is really just damage control. I'm always so used to running something or moving something that once the producers on set I felt in the way. Now I'm sure this isn't the standard of the producer role, far from it on real studio set I'm sure, but I really wouldn't want to do it again. I'm really happy how this turned out, but producing for other people is just not for me.
Overall the entire project went over pretty smoothly. The director Connor Mccurdy, who was also the DP, was a pleasure working for. His vision for this video turned out to be absolutely beautiful and being a respected filmmaker amongst our school, we had a pretty great dream team crew. The painting that inspired the director's vision: Rene Magritte's "The Lovers"
