492 - United Kingdom 🇬🇧 Salisbury — Today I mostly did nothing. Finally. My body feels fine, but my mind is messy and fed up with travel. It’s time to restock. 490 - Rwanda 🇷🇼 Kigali Marathon 141 POSTPONED Flight ✈️ to London 🇬🇧 — As per yesterdays post - I’ve taken the decision to miss Rwanda, Zambia, and Uganda in favour of sorting out the various problems. You may think, why don’t i just get the marathon done and then move on. I would except the only flight available was at 16:20 and this last minute change of plan didn’t allow for enough time... without worry of missing the flight. — I am in the middle of replanning these 3 counties. They will likely be slotted back in sometime in October. So far we’ve had over 60 cancelled flights, and so many changes to the itinerary that I’m not sure where to start. The great news though is that 95% of the countries have either been completed or the flights are booked and paid for. So all I need to do now is rest for a couple of days and then get the bags back on, hop on a flight to Burundi 🇧🇮 and then I’m on my way to finishing this mission. — At 16:20 today i boarded the first leg of my journey home. Rwanda to Doha. It’s now 23:00pm and I’ve just landed before my next flight to London. Another 8 hours. Sorry updates have been delayed folks - I’m completely mentally and physically exhausted. 489 - Tanzania 🇹🇿 Moshi to Rwanda 🇷🇼 Kigali — Simple flight to country 141. Flight number 250+ lost count now. One of the questions I get all the time is: ‘How do you manage all of the logistics with the trip - you must need so many visas?’ The answer is - with a lot of help from lots of people that volunteer their time to make it all possible. Universals Visas are a great company and a brilliant bunch of people. These guys have helped with all the visas waived all their fees in the process and managed to deal with my ever changing itinerary. The next 6 weeks of the journey are going to be tough from a logistical stand point plus safety. Today the team, my parents and i made the decision to return to the UK for a few days to sort some problems out. I was planning to return in 5 days anyway to pick up more visas, but instead I’ll spend a few extra days finalising the last few pieces of the puzzle. 487 - Tanzania 🇹🇿 Moshi, Kilimanjaro Marathon 140 —- With the town of Moshi just nestled at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro the feel of one of the biggest mountains in the world can’t be ignored. Flying into Kilimanjaro airport was spectacular. The mountain rises so high above the clouds; and with the knowledge there’s countless hikers trudging up and down it’s a special sight. The thick cloud smothered the hills with the snow capped peak peeping out the top. — Today’s marathon was fun but not what i was hoping for. Despite it being rainy season it stayed surprisingly dry and warm. I stupidly ventured out without sun cream on. At 2000 meters in 30 degrees, this was dumb. Although my shoulders look great now. My neck not so much. I wanted to run as close to the mountain as possible but the hills and the heat combined with the need for mucho water I decided against it. Running zigzags all over the town of Moshi was the best bet to stay closeish to the hotel. Drinks, Ice Creams, and several tired hours of yawning while running and i was done.
