“I swear, I had no idea that she invited you over for dinner.” Forrest chuckled, reaching past their empty plates on the coffee table to pour the bottle of wine in hand into Nicola’s glass. It’d been a surprise for the both of them, apparently--Forrest, to find Nicola at his door, and Nicola to find that he was confused as to what she was doing there. When she’d informed him that Elena had invited her, his confusion had only grown, hitting it’s peak when his daughter came barreling down the stairs with an excuse about why she, herself, couldn’t be present for the dinner that she requested he make, but that it was a good thing Nicola was there so that they could keep each other company. It was then that they’d begun to understand what they’d fallen victim to, but by that point, Elena had gone, leaving the two of them and the chicken Parmesan he’d cooked for dinner. It wasn’t as if he could turn her away, after what his daughter had pulled, though it wasn’t as if he would have wanted to, anyways. Nicola was good company, but he struggled to think of a time where they’d hung out quite like this. He found that it’d been nice, though. Sharing a meal on the couch. Talking. Laughing. With Jenna’s reappearance in town, and Elena’s lack of knowledge of it, he hadn’t realized how much he needed it.
Pouring wine into his own glass, he looked over at Nicola with a small smile. “...is it weird that I’m kind of glad that she did?”
