8. blorbo of the year - i am not a character person BUT i do have a top 3.. benji ovich from beartown, paul atreides from dune aaand richard papen from the secret history. take from that what you will >:]

14. most anticipated+did it live up to the hype - i'm awful for ruining books for myself w high expectations. so there are many cases where that happened this year. but the worst was probably horror movie by paul trembley. i love what i've read from him and i know he's pretty unique and polarizing but i really just expected to love all of his stuff idk 😩 i definitely still plan to finish his backlist but i'm a little more hesitant to hype them up now. i won't get into why i didn't like horror story bc it's basically entirely a spoiler but i DO think there is the potential for me to like it a lot more upon reread. which who knows if i ever will. but yeah. sigh.

15. biggest disappointment - fans of this pleeaaase don't kill me but the foxhole court. what the FUCK was that shit.

7. great premise/characters, bad execution - i forced my way through both acotar and fourth wing this year. yeah i KNOW. i kind of did it for work but i was also just so curious.. i could write an essay on each tbh. but to keep it short i would say both have really strong premises/worlds/concepts overall and if they were written without the romance/cishet lense (and also just written better..) they could be really really amazing.

21. best rec from a friend - i'm kind of the worst for this (like if i asked for your rec at the beginning of the year i'm so sorry i almost definitely didn't read it) but my beloved coworker could not shut up about all the colors of the dark by chris whitaker and i never would have picked it up if she hadn't spoken so highly of it. we have complete opposite taste in books and like, everything basically, so it was kind of a shot in the dark but it's now an all time fave of mine!!

3. DNF on purpose - i almost never dnf bc i am a masochist apparently and often refuse to give up because i always think somehow it'll get better or be worth it. BUT. i gave swordcrossed by freya marske a try bc i received a free advanced copy through work. i got like 25 pages in and immediately knew everything that was going to happen and the writing+plot was not good enough for me to go through with it so :\ dropped that one

4. DNF but want to - like i said i don't have any books that i dropped, but i did read the first book in a trilogy (shades of magic) and still haven't picked up book two. that FEELS like a dnf situation to me bc usually i binge series :(( so yeah gotta get to the second one asap

5. something i'd recommend to almost anyone - the easy answer is something like the secret history or slaughterhouse-five because like, duh, but i wanna go with the saturday night ghost club by craig davidson (nick cutter!!) cause it's extremely underrated and more people need to read it imo.. it's approachable and relatively simple and fun and relatable and just so!!!
