9. Did anyone in the fic surprise me by doing anything? If so, what?

Hm. I had a couple of surprising people in this fic, but I'd say the real wrench in the works had to be Nigel. I always had it in my head that in the middle of the story, he would be wanting his dad's attention in a real way, and that it would wreak havoc on Lane's life in some kind of unbalancing sense. I also thought Nigel might spend a lot of time not knowing how to deal with divorced parents who essentially catalog his every move (good or bad) and use that as a way to criticize each other/their ex-spouse's life choices.

But I did not know that he was going to up and run the hell off like a little shithead. I usually see him as being closer to Lane, personality wise, but the kind of bravado that leads him to decide he'll make a few calls and hop a plane to New York with his Christmas money? That....might just be some of Rebecca's influence. She's steely and determined. Unless we're talking about optimistic flights of fancy turning into huge risky gestures which haven't been 100% weighted, which is Lane all over. Bless.
