if sam had kept his powers, in what situations would you have liked to see him use them (and how)
most of these are going to be popular (I think?) but that shouldn't matter because they are all truly scenarios I would've enjoyed
ESP/telekinesis like in s1. I know people have hcs that later seasons sam still has the ability to sense spirits (1.09) but I would like to see it!!! and I would like to see it along with the occasional telekinetic outburst (1.14). we know these abilities are not tied to his consumption of demon blood, and you could even argue these abilities were inherent to sam/ones he always had the ability to develop before azazel fed him demon blood as a baby (baby rosie "reading minds" in 1.21) and that this was the reason azazel was interested in mary or sam in the first place. either way, never having sam use telekinesis (separate from his ability to exorcise demons) again seems an egregious oversight to me. by the time the carver era rolled around, it felt like the writers were just throwing darts at a corkboard titled 'ideas to try next,' and so much established lore was being retconned, and you're telling me no one thought of letting sam have a little telekinesis? or a little ESP?? as a treat??? late seasons sam should've had one of those opening chapter of a YA fantasy novel moments where he and/or dean are in danger and his fear and panic cause him to fling an enemy or an object across the room. but whatever...
I guess this is related to above, but a return of the visions would've been nice too. this is mostly because I miss watching princess get psychic headaches and panting and moaning in pain. but again with all of the other established lore the writers changed (or straight up ruined) it would've been a pretty easy sell for me to make sam connected to lucifer, in a premonition sense, the way he was connected to other psychic kids/azazel in general. and yeah we did have s11 and that was great, but especially in s12 and s13 when lucifer was just wandering around (and for some reason not trying to find sam his one true vessel but whatever) we could've been spared a lot of time trying to find lucifer on the computer and spent more time following sam's premonitions
sam rediscovering/triggering his dormant powers via trying to coach jack in his. it's pretty self-explanatory, but again his cabinet moving telekinesis is not related to his drinking demon blood, so it's not far-fetched to imagine sam moving something on his own while trying to explain to jack how to do it, especially if we had gotten. you know. more episodes of that. also fun for me because then I can imagine a scenario where the pencil starts to levitate and sam turns to jack with an excited smile and telling him "there you did it good job!!!" before jack is like "uhhh I think that was you," causing the pencil to immediately fall to the floor with sam's shock/shame. because of how dean was treating and talking about jack in general in that season, I don't think sam would feel comfortable revealing this to him either! maybe he'll take himself to some secluded part of the bunker late at night and focus on moving all sorts of objects to prove to himself that he can't, that that was either a fluke or something jack did without realizing, only for sam to discover that yes he can. he could start training his powers in secret for the purpose of suppressing them, so that a scenario like a telekinetic outburst can never happen, and certainly not in front of dean... only for it to happen in front of dean and for dean to treat it like a betrayal 🥰🥰🥰
sorry for the long response I had no idea I had so much to say on the subject. speaking of, if anybody knows of any really good (I mean ones you've read and would personally recommend) fics of sam's powers returning in some way after s5, I would like to read them!
