Some of these I tried to clean up the best I could, but here are some of my favorite marquee displays for mon cher's films. They're so creative and playful, and I do love how they had promotional stunts (i.e. the horse and funerary carriage for "The Body Snatcher" and such).

If only some of these still existed! If I were rich enough and they still survived, I'd buy all of them and make a collection like what Guillermo has for his house. Aren't these beautiful? I want the cinema to be magnificent and alluring once more. I also love how they added Béla and his other co-stars to the advertisements, too. They all seem striking among the illustrations and small scene captures as well!

Very sad to hear about the passing of L. J. Smith.

She was the author of The Vampire Diaries, The Secret Circle, Night World, and more... books that were a big part of my teen years. When I was 16, I even won a fan art contest she ran on her website.

In her memory, I decided to redraw one of my old illustrations from that contest—Kaitlyn Fairchild, a character haunted by her ability to predict the (often tragic) future through her drawings, from the book Dark Visions. Her stories were filled with great characters, and I loved getting lost in the worlds she crafted. She’ll be sorely missed.

RIP LJ Smith

I just saw the news and I’m floored.

The Night World series meant more to me than I can ever properly express. Those books were my escape hatch during one of the darkest, loneliest stretches of my life. I lost my grandmother (my main caregiver) suddenly as a teenager, and for years after that, everything felt bleak and unbearable, but re reading the series helped me through.

I used to write fanfiction (in my notebooks) for these books before I even knew what fanfiction was. I have a rose tattoo behind my ear both for the roses that grew in my grandmother’s garden and for the rose as a symbol of the Night World. I remember first reading the series in her garden the summer before she died, not knowing it would be the last summer we’d have. I got the tattoo on one of the milestone anniversaries of her death because I remember us scouring the local bookshops for the entire series and me reading it while we sunbathed and drank diet coke.
