hi lauren i bet u do a lot of research for ur podcast, whats the most interesting piece of information youve come across?
Oh man, this is such a great question because, yes, I do a lot of research and yes, a lot of it is super interesting.
A lot of the research I’ve done for Frank’s character has been really heartbreaking, including these stats about homeless vets, but it also led me to read one of the best books I’ve read in maybe my whole life: Tribe by Sebastian Junger. It’s ostensibly about returning soldiers but it is so much more than that - it has a lot to say about community that I think is absolutely vital to living today. It’s quite a quick read and every single sentence is a revelation.
Writing Caleb also led to a lot of very interesting learning on empathy, including this absolute banger episode of Invisibilia.
Other things I’ve had to learn about to write this podcast include: ceramics, rehab programs, therapy (duh), TBIs, internet slang that grew to popularity after 2011.
Things I have not learned about when writing this podcast that I should have researched: football.
