If anyone needs her, she'll be rummaging through the deceased's belongings.
Nah, that 'Respect the Dead' shit never did come to her. Investigation comes first.
She had taken to sleeping with the Shortstop close to her bed, just so she'd be ready if anything decided to burst out of the walls and attack her. Not that she was getting much sleep, since the metallic sounds outside and the pounding on the walls inside made Emily feel like if she slept for a second she'd be ambushed. This left the Scout nodding off on her bed before shaking herself awake. She had gone through her secret stash of TaB, and there wasn't going to be a train coming in anytime soon; not with the tracks buried in at least two feet of mud.
With the Shortstop in hand, and her company-issued back back stuffed with a few extra rounds for good measure, she stepped outside in the hopes that some fresh air would prevent her from falling dead asleep. She rubbed her eyes with the back of a hand and looked out over the base, trying to identify the source of those horrible metallic sounds.
Tap tap. "Hello? ...Oh, good, it works. My name is Aoife Farrell, Your new Admin-- No, I'm jokin'. BLU's newest Demoman. And you all, uh... Y'all have been running around like fuckin' morons.
Not a single one of ya has bothered t'come in here, 'cause there's just this damn corpse lying in this chair. I'm assumin' y'guys at least know what that means.
That guy? The Administrator? Th'person we've been asked where he was multiple times?
Yeah, he's dead."
She gives pause, glancing at her deceased companion once more. Even if it was that anonymous speaker, it doesn't matter. This body is here. Respawn didn't touch them.
"And at this rate, I think we're gonna follow suit."
Respect for the dead. Not something that came to mind, but she was sure her conscience tried to remember. Just a little. Perhaps the woman was taking it for a game; it would explain how eager she was to pull the chair closer to the light to get a good view of the corpse. Aoife studied it eagerly, one hand shuffling around the body's limbs while the other loosely held onto the microphone. Aoife's mind had been used to this sort of gore--her class practically required an iron stomach--but it looked like the culprit was a lot more delicate than her in their work. She had never seen their Administrator, but it was a safe bet to assume this was him. Any other possibilities could only fall to that anonymous person, who had taken up announcing for their actual Admin. They had been awfully quiet, too. Nevertheless, this man has been dead for some time. That was obvious. The Demo would be lying if she said that she wasn't interested in deciphering what had honestly happened here, seeing if there were any notes or clues--she wouldn't deny sticking her hand into the man's carcass, just to see if there was anything left inside--scattered around the hub.
All she could think about was the position of the corpse, the way that the microphone had been held, and the way the papers were strewn along the ground. How much of a struggle had it really been, if at all? The man had been frozen, watching the monitors, perhaps prepared to make an announcement. Could he have really been so blind--well, looking at the eye wound, yeah--but at the time, could he have possibly had time to retaliate? After going through and checking the papers littering the floor, the woman gave the microphone a quick glance. Maybe it was still working. As foolish as they were for waiting all this time, the other mercenaries needed to know.
She wanted to stay, she wanted to leave. But the woman had to try to contact everyone all at once.
Well, at least the man kept his office the way he appeared to store his heart. The woman snickered at her own little joke, moving forward through the hub with her arms folded along her chest. At least it was silent--partially--in here, compared to the storms and the clawing that had been plaguing the base the past week. The smell was nothing too overwhelming, coming from someone who was raised on a farm, but the way that her boots stuck to the ground had her grumbling in complaint. Maybe coming in to check on their boss was a poor idea.
No, it was the most interesting thing in weeks, her boots soiled aside. Those thoughts clearly didn't stop her from continuing to peruse through their Admin's belongings now that access had been unofficially granted. Staring at the screens for a few moments of unsure peace, Aoife finally turns to take a seat in the man's chair. Perhaps she could make a few announcements, namely that the lot of the base (both the mercs and noncombatants) were slacking off--and so was the Admin, from the state of the office. A poor joke, when something quite clearly had swept through like a tornado. Evidence of a fight noted and temporarily pushed to the back of her mind, the woman moves to examine his desk. But the chair becomes of more interest, when her eyes catch sight of the little 'gift' lying in wait. Whatever it is, it's definitely hers for the taking.
Not one person knew where the Administrator was. Any other day, that would be a normality. It wasn't as if they saw him ever leave his office.
But there lies the problem--someone else is in that office, claiming that they haven't seen him either. The hints were obvious, and even if she personally didn't care for the man in the short amount of time that she's been at Nightfall, a challenge is a challenge. Aoife was definitely going to investigate there first.
She's just surprised no one else has bothered to look there before.
The sounds at night also were a factor to her decision; the woman had far too many sleepless nights similar to these back when she was stationed at Mannworks. That alone had her nostalgic--and welling up with feelings of dread.
Uniformed in that distasteful blue color she had scorned since she had been assigned to BLU team after she got off her train, she made her way to his office.
But not before taking a look at that grayed sky. The weather had never been particularly any better than it was in Mannworks, but at least she could tell the difference between smoke and clouds back then. Rain was honestly appreciated at her old base--a welcomed difference from the usual anxiety that the smoke clouds had brought--but here, at Nightfall...
Well, it was too difficult to tell. She spent too much time sliding on mud. Probably just rain clouds--and too many of them, honestly. It felt like a punishment.
It might as well be, considering the entirety of the base hasn't even thought to check up on the man sustaining them.
The NRS had been plotting.
Their conclusion a rather violent and perhaps unnecessary one, but it had seemed a solution at the time of it's conception.
With the Engineer of BLU out of commission, it left the offices open to the tools inside- Those in which Eli had begun to haul out into the last place the scratching had been heard within the walls, now finally waiting for the others to meet her in place with their own solutions.
Leaning her weight against the handle of the axe, the Scout frowned at the wooden planking.
Whatever was scratching behind those walls, was soon going to be set free.

The Scout exhaled a slow and steady breath as she looked over the dusty and faded map of the bases with surrounding area, spread out over two of the medical gurneys in the bay. Her fingers tapped in a rhythm against the side of the table, the sounds a dull thud until reaching the smallest digit, a harsh clanking from metal hitting metal... She found it no bother to her any longer- Far too engrossed in the study of the maps before her.
Her cake, made by her Uncle back at home, lay set out on a plate opposite to where she stood, empty plates stacked next to it as it was ready to be cut and eaten for whoever wanted it... Even if it was her birthday, there was no way she was going to eat it all on her own.
A tentative glance was given to the doorway, propped open by two chairs to enable anyone who traveled by easy entrance. The Medical bay was the quickest area to find in any of the bases, so nobody should get lost.
