Nightmare Sonata is a Voodoo Horror Punk band from the Hellraiser town of Greensboro, NC. Nightmare Sonata was formed in 2004 out of the broken remnants of Greensboro, NC’s Gothic, Industrial and Punk rock scenes. Drawing on the musical influences of both, Nightmare Sonata creates a heavy and groove-oriented sonic brew that combines the sonic expanse of Gothic and the raw brutality of Industrial and Punk. Dark imagery fused with fast punk and metal foundations are woven into an audial and visual tapestry and Samedi (who is often seen dressed as a bokor¸ from Haitian lore)—joined by drummer Vega, bassist Billy Bones and rhythm guitarist Pork—are positioned to blow Nightmare Sonata’s recipe of Zombie Dust into the face of the music industry.

Nightmare Sonata’s sonic experience and visual landscape are not for the feint of heart; the music is dark, heavy and groove-oriented with track speeds that vary between 90 and 260 BPM. The lyrical content and overall vibe borrows heavily from horror film and fiction, dark legends and religious rites and forms the imagery into a relentless aural assault that is reminiscent of Samhain, The Misfits, and Danzig’s solo work. With an audience from across genre lines, Nightmare Sonata gets its draw from punk rockers, Goth and Industrial lovers, as well as drawing from a heavy metal fan base, horror fans and comic and game convention attendees.
