The Sluagh: Ireland's Nightmare Flock
When darkness falls and the west wind howls, lock your windows tight. The Sluagh are coming. 🦅💀
The second installment in our "Dark Irish Lore" series introduces the most feared entities in Celtic mythology – the restless dead who fly as a flock through the night sky, hunting for souls to steal.
These aren't your friendly neighborhood ghosts. The Sluagh ("The Host") are the unforgiven dead, neither accepted by heaven nor claimed by hell. They appear as emaciated bird-like creatures with hollow eyes that glow with malice.
Their favorite pastime? Swooping down to snatch away souls of the dying, especially those who haven't confessed their sins. They always attack from the west, which is why traditional Irish homes kept west-facing windows firmly shut after sunset. 🌅🙏
Sleep tight tonight, and remember – if you hear what sounds like beating wings against your window, whatever you do, don't look outside. 🌙
