ah yes, mutually exclusive. let’s talk about this for a hot hot hot hot second.

first and foremost, read a person’s rules. or if they’re long or got that shit where it’s like / click through the seven passages of hell to get to my rules or something like, at least skim. at least make an attempt to read the rules before following and interacting.

and SECONDLY make sure you check super carefully if you’re mutuals with a person. a lot of people on this site get anxious when nonmutuals send them stuff, especially IC stuff. no, it is not okay to send in ic stuff directed at a character if you’re not mutuals. ( && yes, i acknowledge that sometimes people take a while to follow back, but after awhile you kinda get the hint they don’t see your characters messing well, so they don’t follow back. which is fine. it’s their blog. you gotta do you. ). 

also don’t just go immediately liking a starter call right after following someone who hasn’t followed you back yet. like, that is also breaking the rules of interacting with mutuals only because that shit is fOR. THEIR. MUTUALS. that shit is a huge turn off for me && frankly, chances are i won’t follow you back if you do that. 

ALSO. IF YOU SEND IN PRE-ESTAB. SHIT. WHEN YOU’RE NOT EVEN MUTUALS ??? LIKE Y O ??? that makes the other party so uncomfortable. like. L I KE. /runs hand down face. especially if you DON’T TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION WHAT THE OTHER MUSE IS LIKE. like yo if you sending fluffy shit to a character who is literally known to be a violent son of a fuck, you demonstrate 1. you didn’t read the abouts. 2. you didn’t read the rules. 3. NUMBER 1 & NUMBER 2.

yo avoid the stress and hurt on both sides and just check if their mutuals. if you message someone asking if they wanna roleplay, and they still say no, also respect that. be content with just following them and enjoying them on the dash. if it will literally /kill you/ not being able to roleplay with them, the don’t send them hate. unfollow and move on and seriously just surround yourself with the people who want to roleplay with your character. that’s how you’ll have fun.
