INTERVIEW TIME: KIMOKAL
Electronic Pop duo, Kimokal spoke to us about their latest collaboration with Nikicio and their music as a whole.
(Photo via their instagram)
Earlier this year, you guys launched your first full length album "O" and since then your name break out of obscurity and went on to launch your album in IFF, why IFF?
First of all it's IFI (Institut Francais d'Indonesie) and the funny thing was, we got offered to play a gig there before we weren't even planning our album launching, so then we told the IFI team to launch our album there and they support it, took us 6 months to prep everything up and yeah, i think its the best offer and decision that we ever made!
Coming out of nowhere earlier this year with a full length album, how would you guys describe Kimokal's approach to its music?
we did had 2 singles out ( Under your Spell and Adiamo) + Album remix for Adiamo (involving 9 Producers/Remixer) we don't really put a standard to our music what ever happens in the studio and if we ever feel like it's good then we go for it, but basically it's rooted electronic as you can hear from 'O'
These days, producers are everywhere on multiple platforms such as soundcloud with an abundance of remixes on the web, where do Kimokal fit in the picture?
we just make our own beats with our own character to give a new sound on every single tracks
Knowing Kimo's and Kallula's reference, can you describe how you guys combine your preferred style of music and came up with Kimokal's music?
well it comes naturally, usually it involves a lot of arguments, references from what our current likes we blend them and we're just gonna meet up in the middle and work our way through and usually its not long to make our music draft, so thats sort of our rituals on studio time.
Having electronic pop as your genre, what gig suits Kimokal the best? Do you preferred a micro gig or a lounge-y gig?
any kind of gig is possible for us we're not that picky but if we could pick is the one's that involves lighting and cold ambiance so you can really experience and soak up the music it self then you can really feel the intimacy of the music.
Your latest work, collaborating with Nikicio, "Embrace" and will be showcasedon Nikicio's in the coming weeks over at Plaza indonesia Fashion Week, how would you describe the creative process and how much impact does "Embrace" will have?
we only meetup once with Nina (Nikicio's Designer), a full day of brainstorming ideas about how we wanted to make an awareness to our youth today to embrace their own skin, to their true self and not be afraid to be different so thats why we made the single "Embrace" and made it to be downloaded for free, so that the massage is easier through music and visualised it with Nikicio's Fashion area.
Last question, What are you going to do after "O" will there be any new collaboration like you did with nikicio? or there will be surprises?
For now our plan are just arranging small tour, finishing our merchandise & preparing for our second single!

And also their soundcloud and bandcamp page
At the end of the interview they said “Thank you so much Noisewhore for taking interest in our music, hope you guys can be one of the leading music web-zines in Indonesia <3″ For fuck’s sake even I don’t think of this shit that big. So you can tell that they’re super visionary by saying this to us the other day. Well, okay, Amen to that then.
