So has Plagg figured out that Marinette was originally meant to have the Ladybug miraculous? Or does he just know Tikki has a thing about Marinette lol.

He does know she has a thing for Marinette, since she was weirdly choked up about her being Maotif and weirdly excited to give her a kwagatama. He’s probably on the verge of putting two and two together but hasn’t worked up the energy to really think too hard about it.

Do the gems not bleed themselves? I’m genuinely confused on this point because I remember that when Pearl fought Sugilite, she came out of the battle with cuts/scrapes. Then again I guess you can get scrape yourself and not bleed...but would this imply the gems have layers of “skin”? Honestly I still don’t understand most of gem biology because I wouldn’t expect hard light beings to develop scraps or bruises and yet 😭

I don’t think the gems have ever outright BLED. Pearl did look ‘roughed up’ in the Sugilite ep but I’m presuming it was more an unconscious pseudo-shapeshift of how she was feelin on the inside. 

The final say on gem biology is: It’s a cartoon! We can overanalyze it to death but the truth is, sometimes they sacrifice detail accuracy for the sake of visual cues and narrative. 

Also, though - Diamond sweat and saliva and tears DO have definitine effects on the physical world and we can therefore theorize that although their light-projection bodies do NOT technically have physical ailments, their gems DO produce, in some way, er.... physical... liquids? That’s something to think about.)

They’re not just rocks, they’re sentient rocks. There’s lots of stuff that they can do that’s probably way more complex than we can fit into a single children’s cartoon.

But that’s for the fandom to theorize about.

When you take into account the age Yang must have been when Tai told her that Raven was her birth mother and not Summer (I’m thinking 6 at most since Ruby’s still described as a toddler), it makes perfect sense why it took so long for her to directly refer to Summer as her mom again within the narrative.

It couldn’t have taken place any time sooner (aside for that first mention during her convo with Blake) because it couldn’t have occurred until after she’d confronted her feelings and relationship (or lack thereof) with Raven. And once Yang has done that, now she’s able to finally re-acknowledge how Summer was her mom, in all the ways that mattered and more.

Mm, I agree to a point. But, I also think that Yang never actually stopped considering Summer as her mom. When you consider that when Yang went to Raven, it was literally just to use her as an easy pass to Ruby, it makes it clear that for the most part she’d given up on her as a parent and only really wanted closure from her. Raven disappointed her super hard in the camp and even harder at the end of v5, that probably would have been the end of it, had she not ended up being right about Ozpin. Raven being right about Ozpin likely made things a lot harder for Yang mentally and emotionally, because it put those seeds of doubt, maybe making Yang wonder if Raven had the right idea about running. But Yang clearly got through any of that doubt by the time she hit that whale and gave Salem a temporary breast reduction. If she was gonna die, she wasn’t gonna die quietly and letting the person who ruined her life know it was so very strong of her.

I looked for the name of the trope you mentioned in regard to Azula and Ursa, and the closest I could find would be Unstoppable Rage but subverted. Don’t know if there’s actual names for the things that cause the subversion, but if not I’d coin this one as Stopped By Mother (and in this case the version being when the mother is a Badass Normal and the kid is a Supervillain).

That could work, I would also throw “Untouchable Until Tagged” and “Achilles' Heel” there.

There’s just something funny/sad/endearing about a character, that is considered extremely powerful in the story’s universe, completely falling apart when their mother (who’s just normal and doesn’t even posses any real power) stop loving them or express their disappointment in them.

  Saying both Marinette and Adrien have a point in...

I felt like Alya was speaking on the fandom’s behalf when she told Mari she shouldn’t feel bad just because Adrien did. But yet again Adrien’s feelings matter more to Mari than her own because of this stupid crush that is somehow killing my love for the love square more and more (along with the reappearance of Brat!Chat in “Frozer”). If this is all some strategy to push us into shipping Luka/Mari or Kagami/Adrien, someone should tell Zag that this is a terrible plan.

Well, I don’t at all believe that Marinette put Adrien’s feelings before her own in Malediktator because of her crush on him, she put his feelings above hers because that’s just the person she is. Marinette has more than once put her own hurt aside because she’s been guilted into doing it (Ms. Bustier does this too). She’s a sweet pea, but she’s a sweet pea that the show isn’t letting have any self respect because she has to be the bigger person no matter what. 

Idk what they’re doing but I find it kinda hard to ship adri/mi at all with Adrien acting like the worlds biggest brat. So them trying to push any ship for Adrien is just kinda ah... maybe let him work on being a good friend first.

Sometimes I feel like I’m the only one who remembers that Talia was killed/resurrected by her sister multiple times, and that torture broke her to the point where she disavowed Bruce entirely and accepted her role as heir to the League of Assassins. If Jason’s redemption arc can be facilitated on the basis of his actions being linked to Lazarus Rage then why doesn’t Talia get the same treatment? Oh wait, she’s a brown woman and he’s a white male. Never mind, answered my own ask. 😕

I was gonna say because she’s a brown woman but then I kept reading.

And that scene was so hard to read, not only because she’s was repeatedly killed and brought back over and over again, but because Talia herself has said in the past that she doesn’t want to use the Lazarus pit ever (you hear that Tom King?) also on a side note, did she HAVE to be naked while it happened? I mean it’s not like the Lazarus dissolve clothes or anything.

Also while I’m no fan of even attempting to acknowledge all the horrible ooc things the writers made Talia do, her being tortured by Nyssa might have been at least decent enough of an excuse to cover their ass? I mean Gleason (bless him) made an effort in Robin: Son of Batman with those colorful pearls that effected Talia’s mind, the black one was the one that made her do all of those evil things and she refused to have it back inside of her, so who knows maybe the black pearl appeared because of what happened to her?

Too bad they wasted the opportunity to use Gleason’s idea to give her a redemption story and just went back to doing her wrong.

I read your post “a yearning nation’s blueeyed pride” which is beyond fantastic, but it made me wonder, do you think Marrow from Mantle? Do you think he now has a personal stake in this? Not that he needs one, as your analysis points out, but I just got curious wondering if Ironwood has just inadvertently given him one.

i talked a little about it here, but my personal preference with the AceOps is to read them as ALL being from Mantle, and the program is some kind of model minority uplift/brain drain situation. Marrow would be part of that, and doubly exceptionalized because he’s also a Faunus.

wrt to your question about personal stakes...the thing about Mantle is that it has been suffering for a while, so if Marrow STILL has family down there, it’s hard for me to imagine him being like “i can excuse slow death but i draw the line at dropping a bomb” when he probably would have jumped ship MUCH earlier. things crystallize much faster when you have personal stakes, and Marrow has always had a good head on his shoulders about right and wrong--it’d be much easier for him to extrapolate.

that leaves Marrow either being an orphan, or...my guess, given the way respectability politics must intersect with the Atlesian Dream, is that he moved them up to Atlas with his first paycheck. the AceOps might even have a special fund for it.
