Good morning, and welcome to another installment in this week celebrating Sergei Prokofiev! Friends, I am on pins and needles this morning for no good reason, so I’m harnessing the tension of his Piano Sonata No. 6 in A Major (Op. 82) to bring you all there with me. Played here by Nikolai Lugansky, this sonata is a roller-coaster of intense emotion from start to finish. I’m a particular fan of the moody third movement (Tempo di valzer lentissimo), but the whole thing absolutely teems with complex feeling.
