I’ve bought a couple of old Nikon bodies recently, hence the posts tagged with D1x and Retro Digital.
The F5 was the last of the full size pro-spec 35mm film bodies and it was replaced with the D1 series. The F6 fitted in the gap. A bit of a step in technology but in the grand scheme of things not that much different. My G lenses work on both, the auto-focus is equally fast on both and the build quality is great. Not bad for cameras that are nearly 20 years old.
Interesting to note that modern larger capacity CF cards don’t work in the D1x but otherwise it’s a good sturdy, fast camera. The F5 is also great but clearly it’ll only do 36 frames before having to change the roll.
Next on the list is a D2 variant to fill the gap between the D1 and D3 I already own.
